Went to Dad's yesterday. Both boats were turned over on shore. I chose the smaller light weight one, can't even lift the really old "hole in the bottom" boat, you all remember that one! It doesn't leak (much) anymore since sis and I put that black spray stuff on it. Brother was working on the basement, so didn't dare interrupt him for help with the big boat. Got the lighter one in the water, got all my stuff organized and took off. Then noticed the oar bracket was cracked. After a few turns of the oar it broke. Still attached but wobbly. So I decided to go back to shore without even getting my line wet! Wasn't interested in being out there with only one oar. Pulled the boat in, unloaded it, fished from shore for a bit with little luck. The water is murky and really full of weeds. Lost a lure, hate that. Packed it all up and went over to the house.
It was a very nice breezy morning, so headed to the garden and picked nearly 5 gallons of green beans. Then tomatoes and 20 more cukes. Asked Dad about the beets, said he has some sold. He called the lady and she wanted 15-20 lbs. So I went out and pulled those. Just enough at 18 lbs. The deer cleaned off the tops and I noticed they were starting on the roots. Not enough left to can more pickled beets. Not enough cukes to make more pickles yet, so I didn't bring home any work! I imagine the deer will move on the beans since the beets are gone.
Pulled all the onions when I got home, laid them out in the garage to begin drying. When they no longer smell so strong I'll move them to the basement. Good crop of Ailsa Craig and Walla Walla. The Ailsa Craig will keep about 4 months, the Walla Walla only about 2 months.
Cooked up a pot of beans with onions, added a little EVOO, thyme/lemon seasoning and garlic. Insta Pot for 2 minutes. When cooking time is this short, I only put about 1/2 inch water in the pot.

Thank you thank you for all your concern for sweetheart. She’s nervous as can be expected but hopefully on the road to recovery a little later today.
Can’t say I got anything done yesterday but I did pick some green beans for mom. Chauffeured mom and sweetheart to my oldest daughter’s baby shower and got a haircut while waiting for them. I’ll be staying pretty close to home for the next couple of weeks as sweetheart is supposed to keep her toes above her nose

I spent yesterday sorting clothes kiddo's outgrown and getting them ready to sell. I was worried that they might smell musty since I had to quickly move everything after the tree incident last year but luckily only two boxes needed to be washed. All the jeans were fine too as I checked them against inventory and have the new ones ready to tag and box up. Every time I mentioned going and getting grandma's washer in the past week has been met with some sort of objection by hubby so I told him if there was anything he needed washed for this week to gather it up for the laundromat as I was not washing anything by hand.
So up early this morning gathering laundry as I wanted to go to town and do some school shopping before it got busy. Well I'm sure glad kiddo has sufficient clothes as I found very little in her size. No underwear in her size and only found one pack of ankle socks. A pair of shorts and two tank tops on clearance and only one long sleeve shirt. I did manage to find four pair of pants, which she needed more than anything. Stocked up on crayons, markers, colored pencils and glue as I always buy extra for kiddo and my great-niece for Christmas. I may buy extra crayons next week for kiddo's classmates as I always get them stuff for Christmas too and stuff is ridiculously cheap right now. Stopped by the courthouse and renewed the vehicle license and dropped off paperwork elsewhere that was due today. Stopped and picked up stuff at thrift store and headed to laundromat. I'd planned to bring everything home and dry it but hubby insisted I dry it there too and I'm glad he did as I had everything dried, neatly folded and back in the baskets in no time. By that time I was sweaty and tired and suggested picking up a pizza and fountain drinks and we found a shady parking spot and had our lunch. From there it was to the grocery store for milk and cheese and back home. Still have lots to do but reconsidering as the sight of kiddo napping is sure enticing.

Played in the garden in the morning. Picked a bunch of cucumbers, beans and a few tomatoes that had started to blush and the two cabbages. Tied up some of the tomato plants. Man they are getting big and bushy. Had a hair appointment at noon. While I was out I returned a couple of thing I bought at TJ max that I didn't like when I got them home and since Aldi was right across the street, stopped and got some Italian Sausage to grill for dinner. Back home, looked for a cole slaw dressing recipe and made that, went out to the garden and found my clippers I lost this morning. A woman I worked with at the Dr's office called and she spent half an hour telling me how bad everything there is. Understaffed, low moral etc. Glad I don't have to deal with it anymore. Now it's off to start the grill.

We spent some time cleaning eggs and young squash vine borers off our plants, everything went into the fire pit to ensure they don't come back for a second act. Harvested peppers, squash, zucchini, tomatoes, tomatillos, and beans. I had enough tomatillos to fill a 9 x 12 baking dish so I roasted them with a bulb of Music garlic and popped them into the freezer for future use. Here's an Amish Yellowish Orange Oxheart tomato weighing in at 2-1/4 lbs. Not a single, but three tomatoes that grew into one.

Puttered around the garden yesterday morning. Picked beans, cukes, tomatoes. Ripped out the pea vines, saved the drying pods and the ones not yet drying. Shucked the green ones, huge peas! Steamed them for supper. Pretty good! Planted cukes in their space, it may be a little late, time will tell. Time to get the rest of the beets out of the ground, later this week. Next week I'll plant some lettuces in a vacated onion space, then the week after that Fall radishes. It's also time to start doing something with tomatoes, the first thing is always Marinara sauce. Sewed for a bit in the afternoon, figuring out this new machine and loving it so far!

Yesterday started out with sweetheart and I being at the hospital at 6:30 for surgery at 8:30. The dr said that everything went well even though there was more damage than what the MRI showed. Got her back home and settled in by 1:30 with the block doing its job she was comfortable. About 3:30 the cable and internet went down as it was damaged by some excavation work down the street which didn’t help the situation. One of sweetheart’s dear friends brought us a strawberry pie that was absolutely beautiful to look at and the taste exceeds its looks. Sweetheart spent the night on the couch with her leg propped up and I slept in my chair. The good news is that the cable came back on this morning and there’s still pie in the fridge! Everyone have a good day……
