Woohoo! One crossed of the to-do list as I finished the last bed and have it filled with soil. Squash and cucumbers are popping up and for once I actually have their home ready in advance. Still need to go back and fill the holes in the blocks but that can wait until another day. I'd say this is the last bed I'm building this year but I still have enough soil for at least one more so...

After the rain let up yesterday, went out and planted the 8 cauliflower seedlings and 4 basil from Fleet Farm. I was soaking wet from drizzle so went back inside.
We finally got to walk after 3:30, stayed away from uptown, too many people wandering around waiting for food trucks to open and hoopla to begin. I may wander up to the Court House square this morning for the Festival Market, crafts, etc. When things dry out I'll be mowing and picking beans. Tomorrow going to Dad's to do whatever needs doing. Low humidity and 80* today!

We have one of the nicest weekends on top of us so far for this year without any commitments except for taking Jesse for her walks. It actually started yesterday weedwacking, watering the front flowers, trimmed runners off the strawberry plants, packed up the car to go to the dump on my way back to work.
Giving Jesse her attention for the next hour and it is gardening until this afternoon until we go to the dog park.
You all HAGD!

The same song always comes to mind when I am out in the bright summer sun, standing on the black ground cover, working on the greenhouse... "Breaking rocks in the hot sun, I fought the law and the law won." Well, today I won, I finished putting up and leveling the side purlin, one more side to go, then back up to put the top ones in.
I harvested a bunch of Swiss Chard this morning and have the first batch in the dehydrator, those multi-colored stems really look nice. I sprayed sulfur on the pumpkin and squash vines that looked like they were starting to get a touch of powdery mildew. As usual, I stop at the strawberry patch and yank some weeds whenever I pass it.
Headed over to a friend's house this afternoon for a graduation party.

Be careful what you wish for!! Nothing but indoor puttering here today thanks to rain that started yesterday evening, dropped 6" (yes, SIX inches) of rain overnight & another 1-1/4" so far today. And it's still coming down, albeit lightly at the moment.

It rained much of the day here, too, but only got .11", last I looked! Everything was still wet when I went out about 6:30 pm, so I still couldn't do much with the plants. All work indoors today.

breezygardener, hope everyone is staying safe. Maybe you can urge that rain to go west as the rain gauge registered a whole 1/8" of rain in the last two days.

Had a blah day today as I think I've overdone it the last few days. Checked on the new seedlings and a @#$% slug had already eaten some of the cucumber sprouts. I moved them onto a metal table that I don't think the slugs will climb, so we shall see. Otherwise I've spent the day coloring and teaching kiddo how to paint her nails with crayons. When I rediscover all the fun stuff I forgot about from childhood I'm amazed (and suddenly a kid again).

We tackled house cleaning today. It took 4 hours with the two of us working. House cleaning is at the bottom of the to-do list when gardening gears up, so it was over my limit. But now it is sparkling- except the windows. With all this rain we will put that off for a while.

House cleaning is at the bottom of the to-do list when gardening gears up Same here!!! I got in gear and vacuumed yesterday after our walk. After the grass dried, trimmed and mowed. Picked beans and peas. Last night sat outside and watched a hot air balloon being inflated at the community center parking lot. They were giving tethered rides, sponsored by a realty company. Perfect weather for it, very little breeze. Then fell asleep on the couch, woke up to the blaring bass noise of the band. Went to bed. All I could hear was boom boom boom, no real music. Messed up my sleep! Glad it's only once a year! Tomorrow I get quilts ready for the fair, forgot about getting entry tags.....first thing on list in the morning!

We finally got to enjoy a nice sunset on the new porch with our newly-installed big ceiling fan. Adjustable speeds, and adjustable lighting too. Blades big enough to fly an airplane. Sweet! Mosquitos don't like it, and the phoebes don't approve, either. Too bad.

Decided it never was going to rain enough to do any good, so emptied both rain barrels on the three worst beds and cleaned both barrels out as the chestnut blooms had blew inside during the last storm. Filled both up with the hose. I did manage to pull creeping Charlie in between moving the hose around and it's pulling pretty easy as the wood chips have really broken down. Spread grass clippings around the determinate tomatoes. Decided to tackle the biochar as I've been working around it in the garden for months. One bucket was under a tote and found the resident garter snake napping. I hadn't seen it for a while. Kiddo got involved and help me crush the charred chunks and then poured some really strong compost tea over it and added fish fertilizer. We both looked like coal miners by the time we finished but went on our walk through the field anyway. Kiddo took my hand the whole time which is unusual as she has an independent streak. Still it was nice. Gave her a bath and when hubby came home I went out mixed anothe batch of soil and filled more holes in blocks. Tied tomatoes in the new garden. Yikes, they sure got away from me and it's going to take a month of Sundays to prune them but I'll probably start in the morning if I feel like moving.

2guysnagarden, impressive! I have a few tomatoes starting to turn so it won't be long. The cucumbers look delicious!
