For years I've been trying to figure out why sitting at a desk in front of a computer or driving long distances tires me more than a day of manual labor. Yesterday's trip took it's toll on me and despite being up early and puttering around, when a sleepy kiddo motioned for me to lay beside her this morning I obliged and slept two more hours. I did manage to pick some plantain for drying, jewelweed and lemon balm for medicinal purposes and finally strained the chocolate mint extract I made... um... last fall. It's actually pretty good. Had an issue with the shelf the wild garlic elixir was on being sticky and thought I'd neglected to wipe the outside of the jar and then I saw that the lid was hooved up a bit. Loosened it and had sticky garlic goo running over the side of the jar. Transferred it to a different jar with a fermentation lid and placed is a bowl to catch any spills. I guess the bulbils were a bit too juicy and will be monitoring it closely and filling the remaining space with vodka when it's done fermenting. Hubby and I sampled it and although it's only been about two weeks, it's definitely potent! We all took a walk through the meadow path this afternoon before it rained and I potted up a few rose of Sharon seedlings. Other than that it was a fairly laid-back day.

This morning we took Mr. Breezy's Prius in for its annual inspection, & I did a little happy dance when it passed with flying colors & was ready for pickup just an hour or so later. Maybe we should buy a Lottery ticket today - lol! It seems like no matter how well Mr. Breezy maintains our vehicles (which he does VERY well) there always seems to be some little bugaboo that pops up at inspection time. My truck (aka "The Beast") is due end of August, & I'm definitely not looking forward to that. (No Lottery ticket that day, I'm sure.)
Other than that, since we were out I picked up a couple of things at the store I missed yesterday, & am now about to go out & do some watering. I've been listening to "Chicken Little" weather people for the last several days issuing storm & flood warnings & so far we've received. . . NOTHING!!!! So am behind in my watering.

We couldn't have better weather for harvesting garlic and I pulled mine this morning. It's under a tree curing for the next several weeks out of the sun and I'll cover it when we get rain. This year I grew Music, German White, Montana Zemo, and Inchelium Red. All did okay but I would say more water through the season would have helped a lot. I'll put them on the irrigation system next year. These are them...

Readied two beds for another round of Blue Lake bush beans. Best bean season we've had in a while.

martywny sure looks good. I couldn't possibly dry and cure garlic outdoors in our heat and humidity.

Woke up determined to get that last bed started. Chipped mortar off of 24 blocks and have half of them laid out and all of this by 10:30 this morning. Hoping to finish with the cardboard and blocks in the morning, go to an impromptu PTO meeting and get started on filling it with soil when I get back home. I'd love to have it finished by the first of the week. Had a total of 1/8" of rain today a still waiting for the squash and cucumbers to pop up.

With today being sweetheart’s and my first anniversary I can honestly say I’ve accomplished nothing. Sweetheart and I went for a lunch then came home for a nap. Does that mean we’re old??

I started working on gardens cleanup after all the rains. Did it in two shifts- this morning and then again this evening. Deadheaded roses and other flowers, pulled a whole bunch of siberian elms sprouts. Made a dent but a whole lot more to go. Some can be hoed but some have to be hand pulled. Thinned out the hardy plumbago that has gone wild, trimmed back the vinca that was taking over some paths. I might be about 1/4- 1/3 done.

went for a lunch then came home for a nap. Does that mean we’re old?? Nope, it means you know how to enjoy life! I'm always good for an afternoon nap, especially after working out in the hot sun for a few hours.

Picked beets and beans after things dried out a bit. Looks like it rained, but it's the humidity. Garden is loving it though. Did some in town errands, picked up some more sad looking plants at the Farm Fleet at 75% off. Cauliflower. It will be OK once I get space opened up in the garden for it. Dug a few carrots to make space, these are red skinned and not many germinated. Thinned out the rest of the "regular" ones. Thought about mowing, but decided not to. Humidity hung around 75% all day. I see the kohlrabi is finally going to make their bulbs. Pole beans are blooming. Pea pods are starting to die back, whatever peas appear now will be left for seed.
Got all the garlic bundled and hung in the garage. Had several bundles set aside for sale. Before posting for sale, I contacted some repeat customers. Gone. No need to deal with posting it!
Going to see Mrs. J later, was planning to take her out for ice cream, but with the heat/humidity decided it's not a good idea. So I'll take ice cream, found little Blue Bunny single serve cups of various combos at the store for $2. On sale this week, so got several for future visits.
A friend stopped by late afternoon, we sat outside and had an hour long chat and a barley pop.
This weekend is our town summer festival. Fireworks, parade, kiddie rides, party at the community center parking lot, food trucks, the usual festival stuff. It will be a noisy couple of nights with live bands. Next week is the fair, which will also have fireworks one night.
