pondgardener, I'm interested in your fence foliage. I notice 1 or 2 posts/spikes/supports for each apparent section, covered with lush foliage. Could you provide some information on the posts, if they're metal (which they appear to be), whether or not they've been postholed and cemented in, and what the lovely foliage is? Thanks! emmsmommy, thanks for the update on your husband; I hope the path reports provide insightful information on the tumor and that you'll be able to put this issue behind you.

SpringRain🕊️ ,before I put in the ponds, I installed a 6' chainlink fence completely around our back yard, right next to a 4' chainlink fence that was already there. I wanted to minimize access to any neighborhood kids and hopefully prevent any tragic accidents. And I believe what you are referring to as lush foliage is Virginia Creeper vine. Over the years the vine has weaved itself throughout the two fences and provides a thick screen.

I now have a dozen Red Marconi pepper plants in the raised bed. They are protected by a chunk of plastic drainage tile, secured with a garden stake and a brick. Can’t have too many bricks when it comes to gardening. I use them all the time.
Two bricks on each side of the delicate kale seedlings (one on top the other) with a brick across provides some shelter while allowing the seedling to acclimate to life in the garden.
I knew the first planting of pole beans was sprouting, but was surprised to see they are about 4 inches tall. I don’t know when that happened.
My plans included more tomatoes and cucumbers, but I blew all my energy on week whacking about half of the garden pathways.
Tomorrow...

Didn't do much but pull a few stray weeds (hoo-ray for mulch!) and checked the tomatoes, about a foot tall now (geez, I'm so far behind!). Heavy Hitter and Emerald okra is popping up nicely. Garlic is three weeks away from harvest. Soaked up abundant vitamin D and toastiness from the sunshine, then a large cloud hung over as the sun started going down. I was disappointed at first, but was rewarded with spectacular sunrays and sunshadows, and a multi-colored sunset. Even though I'm somewhat hindered and scaled back a bit, I still luvs me garden.

Great R&R day! Nothing like rowing and reeling at 0630 with bird and frog music! Fishing started out slow. First obstacle was to drag the 14” John boat to the water by myself. No one was awake yet.
First hooked fish surprised me. He jumped and was gone. Nice size. Was on the water for 4 hours. Total 12 bass, 8 of which made it into the boat. 14-16 inches. Filleted them all and left 4 for Dad. Saw some giant catfish swimming around. I reel fast when I see them. I’ve had one go for a slow reel. Not good. 20 lb catfish are strong!
Weeded onion rows after fishing. Made a plan with Dad for rhubarb Tuesday. He said 0800. I’ll be there at 0700 and have 30-40 lbs pulled before he gets around.
Walked dog when I got home and beer battered some Bass. Yum.

lush foliage is Virginia Creeper vine Presume you are not allergic to it. With me it causes chemical burn like rashes with it's crystals (in the sap) that are the same as the ones in itching powder.

Yesterday I potted up the herb plants I've bought or been given as the herb garden is on the back burner for at least a month. I've been slumbering with the kiddo to keep from jostling hubby and I must have fell asleep pretty quick. I woke up at 1:30 and she was still awake so naturally she slept in this morning. There was no dew on the ground and I started mowing the paths through the meadow around 9am. Kiddo likes to go for walks and grass was getting pretty high. Good thing I did as we walked them four times today in between splashing in the pool. Emptied the two washtubs out I grew sweet potatoes in and have them ready to drill better drainage holes in. Pulled nails from part of the salvaged lumber as it hasn't been touched since the nail-in-the-foot incident and I want to clear out that area. Took cuttings of catnip and some of the mints. Should have staked the tomatoes and cleaned up the garden a bit but tomorrow is another day.

Today sweetheart and I had a good day. I started bucket watering all the container plants that I had givena dose of Agro Thrive a few days ago. I really want sweetheart to feel good when she looks at her house and yard. We then worked on the chicken pen. We installed new wire around the inside of chain link fence and sweetheart put sun blocking netting up before we moved the chickens in this afternoon. We then went to the barn to do some rearranging and cleaning. Sweetheart wasn’t happy that I wouldn’t let her help move some lumber around but she’s been nursing a sore back for the last week and I’m not having any part of her making it worse. With the lumber moved I had easy access to the tiller that goes on the tractor. Attaching the pto usually gives me fits and today was no different. Luckily before I called my farmer neighbor I gave it one more try and it slipped on. Hurray! Did a little bit of tilling but most of the garden area is still to wet. If it would just not rain till Wednesday night I could get the garden in. It was a good day.

Weeded, watered and planted. Did a deep clean of the hen housing units. Cleaned the front landscape and updated some local color. Split some wood just to get it out of the way. Thinking of offering it up cheap for graduation parties and beach bonfires.

It is cool out there! Actually in the 60s, after 94° yesterday, so I went out and did some of the usual maintenance stuff, like weeding, at least where I water. I did notice that I do have to mow - one of those weeds that sends up its flower stalk at this time doesn't seem to mind the lack of rain! I gathered all of my irrigation lines on their hangers, and cleaned branches from all over, so I can mow the area when I go back out. I weed-wacked the usual areas, so it's ready now, after I have my lunch.

Walked 3.25 miles at 0630. Checked the garden, weeded the onion bed. It's the only area not covered with straw or grass clippings. Now is the time when I just sit back and watch things grow. Did I just say "sit back"? Silly me, it gives me time for other things! Need to pull some radishes and thin the lettuce again. I overdid it with the seeding, wow. Need to thin Kale also, been making kale chips with those and using them raw in salads and sandwiches. I see my early cukes are sprouting, early for me. I'll plant more in a week.
Went for a second walk, 1.6 miles. Thankful for the breeze today, makes it more bearable. Cool front coming Wednesday followed by a couple cooler days. I'll run with that! Thursday is second cataract. Will mow Wednesday to get that out of the way til the following week. Dad's tomorrow for rhubarb pulling.

Rain was forecasted so we concentrated on getting the last school assignments completed and other than uploading photos, school is over! We still have the meeting Wednesday to determine her needs for next year and need to turn in the iPad and a few other things. It rained approximately 100 drops this afternoon which meant I could have taken the kiddo to her grandmother's and mowed, but that's the way it goes. We played in the pool a bit, I pulled the rest of the radishes and pulled nails out of a few more boards. Actually as I look out the window it's raining again. Hopefully it will be a measurable amount this time.

Man, was it dusty when I mowed out there! As I often do, I used one of those masks when I mowed, but it was still bad. I just saw on the news that we have had no measurable rainfall for 16 days, and are getting close to a 2" deficit for the month. Later today I put some chicken wire around my row of pole beans, as I am having a major problem with rabbits! I churned up the soil on both sides, and held it in a trench with landscape staples, and supported it with a few stakes, and filled the trenches in with the soil, then tamped it down. The ends are sealed off with a bunch of cable straps. The rabbits should be kept out by it. If I lived in a rural area, I'd shoot all those things, and cook with them, but that's not legal here! Plus, no telling what they've eaten, in others yards. Newly enclosed pole bean row by pepperhead212, on Flickr

Today started out a little rough for me, after taking a pain pill last night and going to bed before 9:30 I was wide awake and hungry at 1am. Crazy thing is I felt great and was ready to get the day started. I did get back to sleep sometime after 4:30. The alarm went off at 6 for sweetheart to go get her grandson’s for the day. Monday’s are always a little crazy with the boys here. I took 35 of the 50 buckets I purchased out to sweethearts dads shop and cut the bottoms off with the table saw. Made the process quick and easy. With 80 degree temps and a nice breeze I wanted to give the tilled area a chance to dry out a little more so I mowed the yard. Finally got the tractor out and retilled the garden area. Then tilled the area that will have squash and pumpkins. Helped sweetheart plant some lilies next to the barn that have somehow survived 3-4 weeks of being in a wheel barrow.😂 I’ll be planting tomatoes at daybreak tomorrow ahead of predicted afternoon showers. It was a good day
