51 cloves out of 3 heads?! That's why I only grow hardneck. All she had was softneck...and she couldn't tell me variety. She said that she grows 10+ varieties. Doesn't matter to me, I think. This will get me started, I hope. Is your comment a good thing or a bad thing for softneck?

Help me out here pepperhead. I thought the softnecks produced more cloves than the hardnecks. The hardnecks are bigger but not so many cloves. Just asking bro.

Lasagna is cooling right now. We used our garden tomatoes, garlic, basil, oregano, parsley, and onions. Smelling good right now. Got a late start tonight but that just happens sometimes.

That's exactly the reason I grow hardnecks! Most of the foods I cook have a LOT of garlic, so those large cloves make it much faster to get, say 2 tb of minced garlic, than peeling all those tiny cloves. Call me lazy, but it's also much faster. And many recipes calling for "x" number of cloves, I cut it in half or something like that, depending on the size of the cloves, since some of the heads only have 4 or 5 cloves, and most 6 cloves, at least the ones I grow.

Have nearly a 4 day w/e coming today to Monday....only have one school to drive for, 1/2 hr am then pm so I will be looking forward to the cleaning up yard for the season, putting away summer decorations, tilling the rabbit manure into the garden, trimming hedges, and whatnot. Have 1 more tomato plant to pull, and finish up the green bean trellis, rutabaga and brussels sprouts still growing.

That's my project for the weekend, the green bean trellis. The plants are still green but not producing any beans anymore. They are really overgrown and I get so itchy after handling them. I'll be waiting for leaves to start falling so I can cover the beds. The spinach that started so nicely is all gone. Not sure what got it. Rabbits or birds??

Pole beans here are still blooming. Will pick again later today! Day off, going to Dad's for more goodies, sweet taters, apples, whatever he is willing to part with!

I never thought that recipes might be using really small cloves. I almost never use as many cloves as recipes say. I just figured that they REALLY liked garlic. I remember reading one chicken recipe that was called 14 or 16 clove garlic chicken. It sounded horrible to me.

Yes, that's it 40 cloves! I'll take your word for it because it sounds overwhelming to me.

James, but you DID get garlic planted! So all is not lost! A couple weeks away here, not even close to having a frost. Very strange, yet beautiful Fall weather.
We went to the big city today, did some errands, went to breakfast then ended up at Dad's. Came home with sweet taters, butternut squash, taters, apples, zukes.
Have sweet taters in the dehydrator for doggie treats.

datgirl I am having the same problem with spinach. They all sprouted but a third of it got chewed to the ground. At first I thought it was rabbits, but my spinach is growing in a tightly fenced bed. And then I saw a really fat grasshopper. I am sure there is more than one and they are feasting. Time to buy Nolo bait (for next year).

Get in your fire back, indeed! Love to hear that. ive been working on daughter #3 bedroom. Took popcorn ceiling off, patched, sanded down all the walls ( years ago, I foolishly let her have a faux finish that used an enamel paint..ugh..trying to get back to flat paint on the walls.) finally got a good coat of white on the ceiling..moving right along.
