My goodness, daddy long legs make a lot of cobwebs! Daddy long legs lack silk glands so you can't blame them for the cobwebs. They have no venom either. They eat things like aphids, so you can move them to some leaf litter and tree bark (for sheltering in) around infested plants. They do eat spiders, which may explain why they are near the cobwebs. Cobwebs get dusty and more visible when their builders get carried off by daddy long legs.

oooh good to know! gardendmpls, I always assumed it was the daddy long legs since there so many in our house. I had heard that they are quite venomous but that their mouth parts are such that they can't bite humans. Is this a myth?

I always move daddy long legs up to where my okra is, since that is where I have the most aphid problems.

Son of a gun, I did not know this. I will be moving them out to the garden from now on instead of sweeping them out the door. I never smush them.

I dug up four beds of garlic and put it on the rack to cure. This was a bonus year because I found two hornet nests in the beds. I dug the first one up by putting the hand spade right into it while digging up a bulb. I did not get stung, they were flying low to the ground. I mixed up some Dawn and hot water, now I have clean hornets.
Japanese beetle season is in full swing and we have more in the new orchard because it hasn't yet been treated with milky spore. I put up some beetle traps near the edge of the orchard and had about a pound of beetles in each trap. Overnight, raccoons climbed the fence, bit holes in the bags, and ate all the beetles. I finished the electric top wire later that day and turned on the power, so we should have nothing climbing the fence from here on out.
I found a hole in my carrot bed, probably from a skunk. Not sure what it could have been after, but the hole was about 6" deep and the same diameter. I put a temporary patch in the fence until I can finish the bottom wire on that section. I use a 4' high woven wire fence with electric top wire and 24" chicken wire on the bottom. The chicken wire is bent 90° at 6" from the bottom and stapled to the ground to prevent digging under it.
We've been freezing blueberries and beans these past few weeks, blueberries are coming to an end and beans are still going strong. California Wonder peppers are just starting to come in. Nadapeno, Cayenne, and Paprika are not too far behind. No ripe tomatoes yet, not quite sure how I wound up with over 50 tomato plants but our friends are going to have a bunch this year.
I have several projects in the works, one is a 12' x 16' shed and the other is a 16' x 28' patio covering. I had the lumber delivered for both and will be working on it whenever I have time. The most difficult part will be the patio cover because the post foundations have to be dug by hand, as I have sewer and water lines 'somewhere' under the patio. Should be done just in time to see if they will handle the snow load.

Clean hornets😂 my sister and I went to a concert this w/end..Willie Nelson, Alison Krause, Robert Plant and Bob Dylan..at the Bethel Center for the arts in NY. Stayed at an AirB/B. The concert included Willie’s son who, if you close your eyes is a young Willie. A consummate performer. While leaving the amphitheater he tossed his cowboy hat, then neck scarf, then doo rag into the crowd to the roaring cheers of the audience . Willie was wonderful live!

Hornets, beetles, raccoons, skunks... Dang, Marty, it sounds like a gardening paradise!
On a more serious note, I hope that all of your hard work and perseverance pay off.

Hornets, beetles, raccoons, skunks... And deer, foxes, coyotes, possums, squirrels, chipmunks... at least no bears yet. The therapeutic value from all of this insanity is what keeps me going!

Marty, in your honor I watered a sorrel plant this morning. It's basically a leafless skeleton, but I don't want whatever bug keeps devouring it to starve. ;) Not sure if it's the same bug that likes to nibble basil and pepper leaves. I think that all of the owls and hawks keep the local possum, raccoon, and other populations down. I haven't lived here long, but I've seen a few foxes as well.

I think that all of the owls and hawks keep the local possum, raccoon, and other populations down. Our birds of prey inventory includes a nesting pair of hawks and at least one owl in the neighbor's trees, at least one eagle I've seen fly over my yard, and a few other assorted hawks that fly over the golf courses.

I see hawks a lot around here but they must not like rabbit. We have a lot of rabbits. They must be eating something else.

We celebrated independence day at my parent's house yesterday with yours truly being the grill master of hamburgers and hotdogs. Hubby was winded most of the day but enjoyed the day. Loaded the backpack in the car with an extra change of clothes and a few other items as I expected us to make a trip to the University hospital today but his heart went back to normal about 10:30 last night and so far so good.
I was out at 5:30 determined to get some peppers in the ground and managed to get 40 planted with at least eight more to go in that area. Putting them in the new addition and will put wood chip mulch around them this evening. Supposed to get a tooth extracted in the morning so trying to cram as much work as possible into today.
Possum killed two of kiddo's kittens Saturday night. Assuming it's the same one that was chasing Rocky Rooster last week. Set a box trap and caught a feral cat. Remaining two kittens got to spend the night in a carrier.

Had a dentist appointment this morning for a cleaning. Came home and went out to the garden. While I did dig up 3 rows of garlic, I couldn't stay out there any longer. The mosquitos are horrendous. I hate using the chemical bug spray, but the botanical brand isn't working against these monsters. So after digging garlic, I did a quick walk around, found more green bean plants chomped on. The plants are covered ant ground level and they are chomped on above the netting. . Some critter dug in all the pots on the deck so there is dirt everywhere that I need to sweep up before it rains.
