Went to the dentist office for a cleaning and exam. I only go once a year since I have so little plaque build up. A spot on my gum that has been tender for several days (good timing with my already scheduled appointment!) proved to be basically nothing- just a small abrasion. That was a relief to find out.
Then more hassling with the PO. This was the second day I have been on the phone with them. Today- phone calls x2, long wait on hold, as they came and went, trying to figure things out. We had put our mail on hold when we left for California last month. Long story short, our mail carrier resumed delivery for one day 11/28, after we got back and then deliveries stopped again from the 29th until today! We have 'Informed Delivery' so I could see that the first several days were junk mail. No problem. But then when 3 checks and a car registration renewal were suppose to be delivered (and weren't!) I started the calls. Our main PO in Santa Fe, where our mail is delivered from, is notoriously bad and poor customer service. There was actually one conscientious person, today, who actually saw that I was still on hold after 15 minutes of waiting for his supervisor to talk with me and took it upon himself to make his own report. The stack of 2+ weeks of mail was in our mailbox by 3PM.

Got 1/3 of the house vacuumed, then wrestled with the vacuum to open the canister and get it totally cleaned out. Did lots of little jobs that needed doing. Quilted in the afternoon while binging on The Sinner. I would swear the detective is the guy who plays Jack on Virgin River, but it isn't. Sure looks like an older version of him.

I'm exhausted! Monday started out with a 2-hour delay because of snow and meant we really had to hustle to get kids through the Christmas store. Yesterday we expected it to be a bit calmer but it wasn't. Today is a noon dismissal and hoping to limit it to first-time shoppers only, but we'll see how that goes. We are $85 from breaking even so another successful year in the books.
MIGardener order arrived Saturday and Baker Creek is scheduled to arrive this Saturday. After that I should be finished with seed shopping. Looking forward to a week or two of downtime before getting into seed starting.

Went to the big city this morning. First time out of the house since Saturday. Came home and decided to shred the year's papers that are no longer needed. Walked the Princess, raked leaves in half the back yard, the other half will get done tomorrow. For once I didn't step in dog poo, things are looking up!
Had to deal with Amazon on the phone today. Every December I order 6 boxes of Stash Christmas in Paris tea. Got it today, but it was Premium Green tea. They said they can't take it back, can only credit my account. Then I have to re-order it. OK. I could have one big tea party since I have 108 tea bags I didn't order. I'll probably use it for sun tea in the Summer.

Did some online shopping for grand niece and nephew Christmas gifts, this morning. Will make the purchases later tonight. Then we made our every 2 week trek to Albuquerque. Roads were a bit icy in spots, on the way down, but were clear and dry coming home 4 1/2 hours later. Picked up a pizza we called in, from the road, for a to-go order. Aren't cell phones wonderful? After pick up, arrived home 8 minutes later with a still hot pizza! (My down parka kept it insulated )

So I am wandering around the back patio at 4 AM looking for the Geminid meteor shower, which was supposed to peak at 2 AM and run into the dawn hours. It was a no-show. I went out again at 5:30 and saw nothing again. I did see Venus and a bunch of stars. Jupiter, Saturn, and Uranus are also visible up there but I can't readily identify them. It was 23° this morning.

Hubby was out about 10 PM. He saw 4 meteors…two of which he described as “dramatic “. One had sparks. They appeared to be coming out of Cassiopeia.

Complete cloud cover last night so couldn't see them, even if they were appearing.

So catching a bit of meteor action and quite by mistake. Saw something bright flash by outside the bedroom window and immediately got up thinking someone was in the back yard. Hubby and I ended up going outside for a few minutes and watching. Not many but enough to warrant the trip out into the cold

Shoveled more heavy wet snow both here at home and at the house in town. We sprung a serious roof leak after the heavy wet snow last week. Quinn cant trace where the leak is coming from, to do a patch, and the roofer can't come out until things dry up a bit. So we were shoveling snow off the roof- the charming southwest pueblo style flat roof that is a headache once it starts having problems. We have been fortunate- this roof is almost 22 years old (amazing longevity for a flat roof) with minimal problems over the years. We are gearing up for a new one this spring.
Finished packing up a couple of gifts for out of town family. Will take to the village PO tomorrow. I hate to admit it, but we have started doing more online and even Amazon shopping to take advantage of free shipping. It has gotten way too expensive to ship via PO, UPS, etc.

We took Gunner in for a spa day, had him washed, dethatched, ears cleaned, nails clipped, teeth brushed, new bandana, and some smell pretty. He enjoys going to the groomer, and they do a better job than I do. He goes about 4 times a year.
We made that dreadful trip to the UPS store and sent the boxes out. If it wasn't tradition, I wouldn't do it, way too much money spent on that venture! I usually buy on Amazon and have it sent to wherever it's going, but when you just have to buy someone that $20 garden spinner at Aldi's and spend $50 to send it to that someone, yeah...
I took advantage of the nice weather to put up the last wires in the vineyard, now on to the final pruning and tying. I have more grapes on order and now we are ready to plant as soon as we pick them up. I am also picking up 23 more fruit trees and will be prepping those planting areas over the next week.
I am about ready for a solstice!

Due to a snafu in advertising the Christmas store at school, we ended up giving a two-hour window for shoppers yesterday morning before packing it all up. So grateful for our new volunteer as it's pretty much been the two of us all week. A few totes of inventory left and decided to donate a few things that had been around for years.
Took the deposit to town this morning and took kiddo to McDonald's as she loves their fries. Service was poor and the manager decided to belittle the special needs employee within earshot of me. Bit my tongue as I knew if I said something I wouldn't want to stop, but did share the experience with the corporate office. After an hour of eating her fries one-by-one kiddo decided she was done and we went to the bathroom. She was washing her hands when an employee came out of the other stall, looked at me, and said that she really needed to get back to work. I told her that kiddo would be done soon and I swear when she finally got to the sink, she no more than ran her hands under the faucet before she grabbed a towel. I looked at her and said that kiddo did a better job of washing her hands than she did. Immediately went up to the special needs employee and told her that I thought she was doing an excellent job! I'm not sure what the future holds for kiddo, but I'll be damned if I let her work in a place that treats her as a lesser person.

Been a recluse all weekend. Holed up inside quilting and watching movies. Trying to figure out what to make for Christmas eats. Saw a recipe for Wheat Berry salad and Cranberry Curd Tart on PBS. Don't own a tart pan, so maybe just a pie pan will work. Both look really good. Also green bean casserole and French onion soup. Maybe shrimp of some sort. Christmas morning is always Eggs Benedict, minus the ham/canadian bacon.
Going to sis's on Wednesday. A friend of hers has a hair Solon and I am in dire need of at least a trim. Can't stay the night since The Princess would be alone. We have a plan to eventually be able to take her to sis's. It would involve locking her cat in the upstairs apt. which no one occupies but it is furnished. Just a thought at this point.

So I’ve spent the last couple of days watching indoor stock car racing at the Winter Nationals in St. Louis. It’s a 3 day event with lots of cars, racing and people. Last night was accumulation of all the preliminary races being the feature. The opening for the feature was really neat as the lights were off and fireworks and fire cannons going off for the buildup to the main event. But maybe the most memorable thing was the singing of the Lee Greenwood song “I’m Proud to Be An American”, by the race fans, by the light of better than 20,000 cell phone flashlights.
