On a whim, went to a local estate sale today. Ended up scoring seven "Earth Boxes" for...free. Probably a few weed seeds to be dealt with, but what the heck.

Today I finished the sweets I'm taking to my friend's house tomorrow. A small pan of brownies, so we won't be having withdrawal, and two deserts, than have been some favorites of mine, and others I have fixed them for. The sweet potato pie is almost the same as an old favorite pumpkin pie, with has a quarter cup of cognac in it, and after discovering it in Gourmet Magazine (that tells you how long ago that was!) was one I had to make for various holiday dinners. But that was until I found the Butterscotch pumpkin pie, in bon appétit magazine. That might be a Christmas dessert. The cheesecake is a peanut butter cheesecake with a brownie crust. I'm lucky I don't make this for myself all the time! A small batch of brownies, so we won't be without chocolate! by pepperhead212, on Flickr The Reese's Cup cheesecake, made with 12 oz of creamy peanut butter, and a brownie crust. by pepperhead212, on Flickr A sweet potato pie, with some cognac, and some newly fermented crema, instead of the heavy cream. by pepperhead212, on Flickr

Drove up to Moro Bay and had lunch at a place I call 'the shack on the beach'. It looks/feels like a Mexican beach joint. Good food. Then took a walk along the bayside before heading home. Baked the pumpkins for pies tomorrow.

DS arrived yesterday, went with us to DH's dr. appt. Decided supper would be Subway. After we all got settled, I fell asleep at 7:30! Dinner today will be a Cornish game hen for DH, sides will be twice baked potatoes, green bean casserole, stuffed cauliflower and fresh cranberry sauce which I am going to attempt to make, a first for me.
Lots of things for DS to help with around here so will be busy.

Yesterday started off with sweetheart and I going to the cardiologist to have my implanted device checked out. All went well except for the statement about no running the tractor for 4 more weeks 🤬!! Took care of a few errands on the way home and then prepared for a get together with her kids and adopted Texas family. Pizzas, pie, games and lots of laughter filled the rest of the night till quite late. This morning finds us with 2 extra adults and 5 kids at different stages of waking up. We have much to be thankful for……

Well shucks.... my nephew, who arrived at my sister's Monday night around midnight, woke up Tuesday AM with a slight sore throat. It stayed very mild through Wednesday and then Wednesday overnight he took on a fever and yup- today he tested positive for Covid. So Thanksgiving dinner was just me, hubby and sis. Nephew is now isolated and other guests, of course stayed home. The three of us figure it's a done deal- we are exposed and we'll just have to wait and see what unfolds. Sigh....

Yesterday started off with breakfast consisting of b&g, sausage, bacon , eggs and sweet treats for our overnight guests. With goodbyes said to everyone we hustled up to get to moms for her meal at noon. A couple of hours of family, football and laughter made for a nice get together. Even though mom was beaming I’m sure she was ready for everyone to to leave so she could relax. I did get commitments from one grandson and nephew to come help me Sunday get a couple of barn projects done. The FIL stopped by later on for pie and to watch a silly old western, we have much to be thankful for……

Had a wonderful Thanksgiving with my parents and my aunt. Too much food but that means lots of leftovers and we'll definitely enjoy them today. We had some laughs and a few tears looking at some of the photos I found in grandma's stuff. Also spent a few hours trying to get mom's computer up and running to no avail. So over the weekend I hope to dig into the 3 or 4 PCs that I've pulled from the discarded electronics we've gotten in the past few years. We've jokingly referred to mom's computers as Frankenputers over the years because they're constructed of various parts and pieces.

Busy Thanksgiving for us too. Friends and family early for appetizers, turkey with all the extras for dinner, and lots of desserts. My kitchen is a mess with dishes to be put away and Thanksgiving decorations to take down, and Christmas decorations to be put up,but as centralilrookie ,says, it was a good day and I have a lot to be thankful for. desertwoman ,hubby had Covid 3 weeks ago and I never got it. Hopefully you'll be as lucky. He started on the antivirus drug Plaxovid right away and it did help shorten his symptoms.

After a lovely (& large!) Thanksgiving dinner yesterday with just the two of us, were up & out early this morning to take advantage of Lowe's one-day-only "Black Friday" sale. Ended up with an absolutely lovely 8'-9' tall fluffy & full fresh-cut Xmas tree for 20% off, which was a real bargain considering what other Xmas-tree vendors around here were criminally asking for trees of smaller size & lesser quality. Also snagged two very nice fresh red-velveteen-ribbon bowed wreaths (on sale for 2/$20) to attach to our driveway posts.
This is the very first year in our entire lives that we've bought any Xmas greenery before December. I still cringe at buying Xmas stuff in November, but the monetary savings + the quality of buying early was worth it.

No black Friday shopping here but have been stalking the seed sales. That prompted me to go through and organize my seed stash as I located a photo organizer I'd bought for $1 many years ago. All the photo organizers inside had to be folded together but I now have the seeds somewhat organized. Unfortunately there's no way all the bean and pea seed will fit inside so looking for a smaller tote for those. I could realistically get by with only onion seed but... Discovered that I have way too many radish seed and last year I overwhelmed mom to the point that she doesn't really like radishes now. I can eat one or two but there's talk of a free seed library starting up in town next spring and I might end up donating most of them. Also lots of beet seed but I absolutely love them! I really don't need any more bean seed but you know when I see a pretty seed... I did tell hubby that if for some reason we had to vacate quickly that the seeds were coming along though.

I can only eat a few raw as well, but have you ever tried them roasted or braised? They really mellow when cooked & are more like turnips.

but have you ever tried them roasted or braised? I hadn't heard of this. Will definitely give that a try. A little goes a long way, raw, for me as well.

So far, so good for sis, hub and me. No signs of covid yet- on day 4.
The 3 of us took another 3 mile RT walk to the beach and otherwise just hung out at the house. Nephew is feeling a little better today. He is isolated downstairs, we are all on the street level floor (upstairs) Quinn and I will test tomorrow and decide if we will start driving home on Sunday, or not.

With sweetheart at work yesterday I piddled around home doing domestic duties but not really accomplishing much. I can proudly say that I didn’t start a vehicle or leave home. I did watch a couple of the Illinois State high school football championship games and was quite impressed by the way that the kids conducted themselves on the field.
Tonight we are having the kids over as there is going to be a visit from the bearded guy in a red suit. Meal prep plans and threats of putting up the Christmas tree were discussed last night. There goes my peace and quiet……
