Kiddo had a dance at school this evening and I went out early to help. For some reason she wasn't a fan of the dress and I had a time of getting on her last evening. So I enlisted the help of three girls to help convince her to put it on and it worked perfectly! She had a blast as did all the kids. I'd convinced hubby to come along as an extra set of eyes and he ended up working too and enjoyed himself. Kiddo was ready for bed when she got home and we're planning to do the shopping early in the morning and visit afterwards.

Moved a 50 cell tray of mystery peppers out of the laundry room and transplanted them to the greenhouse. Went through three bags of potting mix.

We got twelve new 7-foot staked tomato cages up today, to be ready for planting time in April (we are craving fresh garden tomatoes). Some staked with steel posts, others with heavy-duty black bamboo. Why, I'll be able to park myself out there and pick up radio broadcasts through my teeth...right before the lightning strikes.

A glorious 53º high today with clear blue skies- I worked in the gardens today, cut back drought tolerant perennials, raked and swept some leaves that had been under ice and snow since November. Loved being out there. Had to take advantage of these beautiful days, this weekend, 'cause the weather will turn, no doubt about it. it's only February, for goodness sakes.

We were able to walk yesterday, though it was a sloppy mess in some places. Stayed mostly uptown where sidewalks are clear. 4 times around the Court House is a mile. We went 2 miles, The Princess had a week's worth of P-mails to answer! Did hand quilting off and on, a friend called on the spur of the moment and asked if I had lunch yet. Nope. She was in town for grandkid's BB games, we met at the Mexican restaurant here in town. Ran into a couple other people there who are also retired from where we all worked. Had a great time. Also finished up the dreaded taxes. Iowa no longer taxes retirement or SS income, so we are at zero there!

Went down to Chicago to visit my younger sister. She is dealing with a whole bunch of health issues stemming from a traumatic brain injury 25 years ago. She makes me realize how good my life is. She is also a hero of mine. To live with her medical issues for so long is something I am amazed at, but alas, they are catching up with her.

datgirl, Hugs to your sister DH is a survivor of a traumatic brain injury albeit some 40 years ago. However the effects never leave you. Some days are better than others, but each day comes with it's own set of challenges. Just be there to support and understand her no matter what. Chin up!

Treadmill this am. Quilted for 4-5 hours, watched Click Bait on Netflix. That was a tangled web!! About 10 hours to go on the quilt. Takes longer when I'm watching TV too, but I can't just sit there and quilt.
Went for 2.5 mile walk, stopped by and checked on our friend, the one who lost his wife in September. He is doing ok and coping pretty well. Princess is always happy to see him, acts like she never gets any attention. Silly dog.
Went out and chopped some ice, when it melts it tends to run toward the garage on one end, and comes in thru the blocks on that same end, then it's an icy mess inside and the door freezes shut. So I put some 1 x 2's where the door rests when it closes to prevent freezing shut. Worked! Not frozen shut this morning. But then I noticed a puddle of oil at one end of the garage door, thinking it's the spring mechanism leaking. Great, we will have to call the garage door guys, the springs were new just 3 years ago. Only one was bad but we replaced both of them, double wide door.
Last night for major left overs, so I will have to cook tomorrow!

My new workout is on a rebounder/mini trampoline and I love it! No more walks in the cold. And I hate treadmills. This is fun! Doesn't take up a lot of space. And the research shows that a 10 minute workout on the trampoline is equal to a 30-40 minute run. I thought I was in pretty good shape. This is kicking my butt!
So started the morning with my "beginner's workout' had breakfast, FaceTime with my sis for 2 1/2 hours and then went out into the 56º! day and did more garden clean up, cutting back perennials that I left up for winter interest, chopped at some ice in the shady areas.

In the last couple of days I’m happy to report that the warden has begrudgingly released me from from easy chair detention. I may be somewhat limited but at least I’m doing what I know I can do. Return visit to the dr to get the stitches out is scheduled for Friday. Hopefully he will be willing to do the other hand in the next two or three weeks. We’ve been busy attending grandkids sports events for the last couple of weeks. 7th grade grandson’s basketball ball team plays for the state championship this Thursday night and the schools 8th grade team, which he plays on, plays in the tournament tonight. That kid does love his basketball. Of course his mom brings the 5 month old to all the events and there seems to be no end of willing arms ready to hold that little guy. Life is good…..

Been up for a while, 0400. Planted Utah Tall celery seed, gave onions and shallots a haircut. Harvested hydroponic lettuce, will take that to Dad for his birthday today, plus the onion clippings. He loves fresh lettuce. Then we are going to his favorite all you can eat, Pizza Ranch. I'll be visiting the salad bar!

Another bad start to the week. I ended up bringing kiddo home with me when I left school yesterday as her nose eyes, and cheeks were red. Developed a slight fever last evening and kept her home today. She had an appointment with ENT tomorrow but rescheduled for next month. Now if we both can stay healthy enough to make that appointment. Hoping to plant cabbage over the weekend and there was a variety from Baker Creek called Glory of Enkhuizen that sounds interesting, so I ordered it, okra and the statice that I'd forgotten last time. Still keeping a close watch on the local seller as he's been adding a few new varieties every week. Varieties for the one trial I'm participating in are on the way and I'll admit I'm a bit intimidated by this one as I'm to select and return seeds from the varieties that perform best. Hubby is working on tearing down the old building since it's in the 50s. Last week he removed the dividing wall I'd built when we were using half of it as a dog shelter and I'll probably incorporate the lumber from that into the greenhouse. I'm itching to get outside too but alas, I'm getting sick too.

Went to Farm and Fleet to scope out buying a new hooded jacket but the name brand price tag of $139.00 was more than I could stomach. Since I’m not making a living in it I’ll stop by TSC and look a the off brands. Picked up a couple of the type of jeans I like, that are hard to find, only to see that they are dbl kneed also. Didn’t see this till I got home. 🤬 On the bright side I did go to another basketball game last night and got cuddle with my youngest grandson. Life is good…..

Went to Farm and Fleet to scope out buying a new hooded jacket but the name brand price tag of $139.00 was more than I could stomach. I bought one at Tractor Supply or Runnings, not sure which, for $35 on sale. I also have a Carhartt and I see no real difference in warmth but I feel much better getting out in the nasty, dirty stuff with a cheap jacket. My dog has a Carhartt too. I feel like I should save the Carhartt for special occasions like funerals and church. Nice looking little boy there!
