I use Adblock Plus on all of my PCs. Cuts out a lot of obtrusive ads. Even ones on YouTube.

Yes, it was me. I got the idea from Oliverman and I am using Ad Blocker Plus. It's free and works great.
I get no ads but I do see this message at the top of the page on this site.
Please consider supporting this website by disabling your ad-blocker. This website does not use audio ads, popups, or other annoyances. Thank you!

I am finding the ads very easy to not see. I stay focused on what I am searching for and they disappear. There is no sound with the ads. I will support this web site by not blocking the ads. I feel it's a small price to pay for access to our garden community.

I didn't notice the ad's when I first started on this forum. Just noticed today, I don't mind as long as I see all my friends. I realize any forums must exist by ads or will not have people like Steve to be our moderators................. Thank you again Steve, and all the people who have come to this forum.

I just ignore them.
There is another board that I also go to that was started almost the same time as this one....both are on pro boards. They didn't have the ads either until today. But most boards have them unless someone is paying for the board. One gal that "owns" one board did that for a short time. It cost her $5 for so many posts and it didn't take long to use up her $5....just a couple of days. So I won't block the ads either.

I really don't mind a few banner ads at the top. I believe AdBlock has settings adjustments to allow some less obtrusive advertising. I use it because it stops popups that seem to litter much of the web.

I agree - I just ignore them. By the time I scroll down to check things out, they are out of sight, anyway. It's not the type that pops up right in the middle of something you are reading, like some - THAT'S when you need adblock! Another forum I go to on proboards had this happen, and the creator apologized for the ads suddenly appearing, explaining that it costs money to go without them.

Maybe the info at the very bottom of the pages only shows up for me as the Admin, but here's the deal Ys, two weeks ad free, and now it has started. ProBoards sets a price of $6/month for up to 50,000 page views; note that this not a per person subscription, it is just a $6 payment to keep the website ad-free for all viewers. I thought 50,000 sounded pretty hard to imagine, but according to info on the "subscrib" page, there charge for Feb remaining would be $2.79 and shows 23,214 Pageviews! Huh? Wow, there are only 50 members, so that number seems pretty curious. I was asked if the forum would get booted if everyone used AdBlocker? I rather doubt that, but assume the darkest scenario, I think I'd get notified. And if that happened, I guess I'd come up with $6/mo. to keep it going. I don't really see that happening, however. BTW, whatever browser you use will have a way to add extensions, Here is a Google list of ways to find the one you want: tinyurl.com/op3keez

okay, thank you everyone. what I don't like is how they are treturously close to the buttons we have to push to get to the next forum on the list, if I slip, I click the ad, which is their point!

I realize that ads pay the bills. There have even been some times, on some forums, when I have utilized the ads and actually bought stuff. Not often though. I normally don't even see them unless they are the type that pop up on the screen. Then, we have a problem. No forum is worth that kind of intrusive advertising.

They are the big wide ones at the top and they come and go. I just ordered something on e-bay this morning and my banner is advertising e-bay right now. Yesterday it was Purtitan's Pride and I had just ordered some supplements last week from them. Right now the ad at the bottom of my page is for Buxton wallets and that is another thing that I was recently searching online.
It is called targeted advertising and it will usually be something that you recently did a search on but you don't necessarily have to have bought it. just searched.

Okay, this is creepy! I just paused my AdBlocker so I could see what I was targeted with: P.F. Chang's (never been to one, never searchd for one), followed by a coupon from Safeway for Weight Watcher meals for one! Hey, thanks a lot! I put my AdBlocker back to work and reached for my bag o' Cheetos.
