the article linked notes that Johnnys did have a supply of untreated early girl seeds. Not sure when the article was published, but I checked Johnny's and they no longer have them. They have 2 "girl" tomatoes, valley girl a determinant and new girl an indeterminant. Johnny's touted the new girls as "better tasting and more disease resistant than Early Girl" www.johnnyseeds.com/p-5569-new-girl.aspxAlso came across an article on a tomato developer in CA that has developed a replacement for the early girl called dirty girl that they were putting out for the ca local organic growers as a sub for the early girl. www.sfgate.com/homeandgarden/article/New-Girl-is-a-Monsanto-free-tomato-5295723.php

I hate Early girls. In my opinion they just SUCK, for flavor or anything else. They get teeny fast after first production and first production is crappy.
They can take them out of existence and I would never miss them.
Just my humble opinion on a crappy tomato.

But it shows us what is possible by Monsanto's purchase of the Seiminis seeds and their point to control the market. Also Johnnyseeds are a Monsanto related company so Monsanto benefits regardless.
