Saw a You Tube a few days ago where the person doing the video said that the EWG (Environmental Watch Group) had issued an alert and report of some food producers that are spraying regularly with paraquat. One of them is the Wonderful company, which produces Pom Wonderful brand pomegrantes as well as almonds and pistachios.
We were alarmed to find out about that because we had been buying their juice and of course it's marketed as a very healthy fruit or juice to consume. The levels were present and they can cause neurological damage. If you go to their site, there should be a report on this so that you can review it for yourself. They also provided a chart with the names of other companies, many in California that were spraying with this chemical.
When I told my husband, his reply was, what is safe anymore? It was a good question and a lot of the mainstream grocery store produce seems to be pretty contaminated these days. I always think about how small kids consume something like this and it impacts them even more than adults.

I always think about how small kids consume something like this and it impacts them even more than adults. That's how I look at it these days. While I'm not going out & drinking RoundUp cocktails, as far as everything else goes, in our late 60's at this point, we just eat what we want.

I always think about how small kids consume something like this and it impacts them even more than adults. Which is why our kitchen is almost 100% organic. There are very rare non- organic items we purchase. I don't care that my grocery bill is higher. I don't care how old I am. It's better for me. Better for the planet. Better for future generations. Cancer is on an alarming rise for younger adults (under 40) and I have no doubt contaminated foods are part of it- along with other environmental issues. Fatty foods (e.g. olive and other vegetable oils, butter, animal products like meat, milk, etc) are especially important to consume organically. As for produce, it is good to check the yearly list of the Dirty Dozen and the Clean 15 to know what nonorganic produce you can safely eat and which ones should always be organic.

That's one of my biggest concerns as a parent and one of the reasons I'm striving to grow as much of our food as possible.

I grew up on a farm in Kansas, and we always had a big garden . I credit my Dad for not using any of the chemicals on our plants and trees and we still have good harvests, enough to eat fresh and can/freeze the rest. They make it sound like people have to spray everything to kill every bug and avoid a plant disease and you can just work with nature and grow organically and still have success.
He loved watching Crockett's Victory Garden when it was on TV and admired how he was also an organic gardener. I agree that if it costs a bit more, it can worth it to protect your health. With all of the changes and what they want to add into our food, we have to be especially careful now. I am hoping for a good garden year this year, and I always grow organically too!
