We have a Crimson King Maple tree that is about 40 years old. Today, as I was looking at trees on the yard, trying to decide which ones need pruning attention, I found an area on our CKM that might be problematic. Toward the top of the trunk, on the side facing the garage, I found a brown/yellow area that looks soft and wet. I didn’t touch it…I’ll go out with disposable gloves tomorrow and give it a feel.
Online research suggests Bacterial Wetwoods/slime flux. Anybody have experience with this tree disease?

binnylou, Never heard of that. Hope it's not something that spreads and will eventually affect all maples!
