I reluctantly withdrew my offer to give a ten minute talk on victory gardens next month. Mostly it was due to too many other obligations but also because I haven't had adequate time to prepare. Still several books I want to read on the subject and trying to cram a couple of decades of war gardening into a ten minute talk is challenging.
Mom and I have talked on several occasions about the patriotism that existed during the first and second world war and whether or not we as a society would be able to show our support. We both seem to agree that our society has become a materialistic, self-centered one with little regard to our neighbors. Could I do it? Yes. Do I believe the rest of our country would do the same? Well....
What do you think?

I hate the present political climate. I believe that Americans can for the most part arise to the occasion as they did on 9/11. Wish that they would over turn Citizens United because of the flood gates of special interest dollars that are ruining our country. We can and will band together, but like you I wonder if too much damage has been done. Between lies and bs conspiracy theories and entertainment companies pretending to be “NEWS” undermining our faith and trust in basic facts and truth 🤷🏻♀️. Garbage in/Garbage out..

Between lies and bs conspiracy theories What's really scary is that some things deemed conspiracy theories were later found to be true.

My thoughts? I believe a lot of the country would rally and band together. I still have faith in the good hearts of most people. But I also believe there will continue to be a strong vein of closed hearted people who are loud and unreasonable. IMO, I believe this dark force that feeds closed hearts has always been there but was more subterranean. The past few years have given it permission to show itself more and I believe that can be a good thing though difficult to witness. A 'healing crisis' is when the disease gets worse before it truly heals (and healing doesn't necessarily mean getting rid of the disease completely). The disease of broken hearts needs deep healing. We are a society out of balance, but balance can and does find it's place again. Is it too late? Too much damage? I don't know. But I will go to my last breath doing everything I can to affect healing and bring balance back on whatever levels I can.
