Not too late to start more, so there's that at least. Yup - still time. I'm still starting peppers & tomatoes. I accidentally left my tiny pepper & eggplant seedlings out in the little greenhouse overnight with night temps going down to 40. Thought they'd all be frosted & wilted next morning, but thankfully dodged that bullet. Won't be making that mistake again. Hopefully.

Ugh! First rattlesnake of the season, sunning himself on the concrete just outside the back door. I scared him away with some water, but he's there somewhere. was going to pick some berries, but will wait till tomorrow. I only see one about every two years, but I know they are here more often.
Snakes always start appearing when it gets warm, and the neighbors start clearing their hillsides with weed-whackers. On Sunday the avocado orchard across the back little canyon had guys whacking the weeds between the trees for hours.

Last week was the first time my lovage actually came back! I am rather happy about it as my lovage plants have been struggling since I've been trying to grow it and it is one of my very favorite herbs!

First strawberry of the season! So good! Here too. Shared some with grandson and SIL, who were helping gather eggs. Also spotted peonies and a Lincoln rose.

First sitting out on the flagstone terrace for wine and appetizers, before dinner, with friends we had over. Weather is finally feeling like late May. Yipee!

First yellow straightneck squash. It was rushed in, rinsed, and quickly consumed as-is (was) with a ranch dip. A garden tradition of mine.

First time ever (I think)… I planted Celebrity tomatoes this morning. Both plants went in to the same hole. Why? I’ll give them extra love.
