I just bought a cyclamen from the supermarket. $1.00. Had to take it home. So when I researched it I learned that it doesn't bloom in summer, it is now entering a dormancy period. will bloom in Autumn. And it likes to be at 55 degrees during dormancy. But I did not find anywhere-does it need water during dormancy? should I re-pot before putting it up?
thank you.

I don't know anything about cyclamen but most plants that are dormant require some watering like maybe once a month.

My hubby has a cyclamen he's had for probably 20 years. It sits on the same window sill (east facing into dappled sunlight) year round. In our last house it was in is study on his desk near a west facing window but not in direct sun light, year round.
He waters it once a week and has only repotted it once, when the clay pot started to disintegrate.
Occasionally there is a new seedling that pops up in the pot, if he didn't dead head all the flowers. From my observation, they are pretty easy to care for.
And he insists that it is important to bottom water the plant.

They do well here, we've just put some out in the garden and they've come up again over successive years, leaf up and flower in late winter and go dormant in summer. There is some water over summer buts its pretty minimal. I wouldn't be surprised if they originally come from a Mediterranean climate where they naturally go dormant for long dry summers due to insufficient water being available.

Just don't do what I did.. Kept it all summer and winter..then it started to go dormant but I thought that I killed it so I tossed it...then it really did die. Then someone told me that they have a dormant period.
