I bought a brand called Tiny But Mighty today. The label says non-GMO, gluten free, etc. It's a 300 year old heirloom. As far as I know popcorn has never been GMO. I call the company, they are in Iowa. The guy said they have to put non-GMO on the label because they sell to Whole Foods and it is a requirement of Whole Foods as well as the gluten free statement. He also said he wouldn't be surprised to see GMO popcorn in the future. Then we got to talking about sweet corn. YES, GMO sweet corn is out there! It is being planted in Iowa and probably in other states. It is taking over, little or none just a few years ago. responsibletechnology.org/sweet-corn-non-gmo-right-read/This next article is about GMOs and cancer: responsibletechnology.org/gmos-and-cancer/

I would normally assume that popcorn is gmo unless otherwise specified. I am normally suspicious of all corn products and the Monsanto related if not out right owned by them. I buy only organic popcorn. I have lost trust in our food system and the government who allow these products to continue.

I would normally assume that popcorn is gmo unless otherwise specified. As of 2016, there was no GMO popcorn sold in grocery stores. However, other ingredients -- especially oils -- in fast food popcorn may be GMO.

A couple thoughts from a corn grower. I might rather have GMO sweet corn with the BT trait than that which gets sprayed with insecticide multiple times before harvest. The crop dusters don't fly the sweet corn fields here nearly as much now that GMO sweet corn is being planted. I pretty much only eat my own open pollinated sweet corn though.
Popcorn isn't available with any GMO traits, as far as I know.

Whole Foods has an organic popcorn to avoid any pesticide residue

oliverman, So are we to assume that most canned/frozen corn we might buy is GMO? Sounds like it is becoming the trend. I'll be watching, but I rarely buy corn.

Mumsey, I would assume so. A couple of the big name canning companies are contracting some organic acres, but I am sure that the majority of the non organic acres are GMO.
