I purchased some tuberous begonias and planted them in indoor pots and not a thing has happened in a month. I saw a segment on the news by a local nursery owner and he said just to plant it at the top of the soil and press in. Did I do something wrong? Did I get tubers that are old and not performing? Should I have covered it entirely with soil? There are no roots whatsoever!

Hmmm.....I haven't grown them for years, but you should have roots by now. They couldn't have been planted upside down, could they? Weren't dried out when they were planted?
You might want to pull the soil back and make sure the tubers are still viable. One year I bought quite a few tuberous begonia starts from what was considered a well respected nursery. Within a week I noticed they were dying. Inspecting the stems, I found they were being cut off just about at the soil line. Further investigation revealed some ugly white worms (don't remember what they were) that were munching on my lovely begonias. Obviously I never went to that nursery again.
One thing about growing begonias in pots is that if you eventually put them outside, you'll have to check the moisture level carefully. I found that clay and plastic pots were unsuitable for begonias, and only Styrofoam worked by providing the right mixture of air and water. In plastic, too much water was retained. In clay, too much water evaporated. Styrofoam pots were the only pots that worked.
And actually that didn't last long because I had set them on the front steps as flanking decorations, and someone with grabby hands just took them one night.

I am wondering if they were not good in the packages....maybe they dried out too much...I lifted one....there is just nothing, no growth but the reading i was doing online said that the concave side is on top. So I think they are in the soil correctly.

I purchased some at Agway or Walmart in the clear bags with the cardboard flap that has the directions..it was too early to plant and when I did they were a bust. I did not try to return them bec they were in a discount kind of a bin..

I came across a gentleman who does a gardening segment on TV here. And told him about the begonias. He said to check them and if any are squishy they are no good. Also that they need a lot of heat and to put it with my vegetable seedlings where it was warmer. So 1 out of the three felt viable so I am trying it. And that he planted some in Jan in a pot and it just started growing recently....so it has been 2 months to get going.
