I just went into the trash can to find where the lettuce I opened today came from. It's from California. Tuesday I returned a carton of recalled eggs.

I'll take arugula salads from my garden to work next week. Hope I have enough. I could probably harvest a few leaves of Red Sails as well.

Can't wait to plant my own lettuce and be safe. They just said the Romaine hearts from AZ were also tainted and that washing the lettuce would not be safe either.

I'm tired of bearing the cost of these recalls/notices.

I have some Dole organic romaine. I called the company, they say they have not been contacted by the CDC and are unaware of any issues with their romaine.

Mumsey, I had 2 pkgs of Dole Romaine on hand when the CDC warning was issued. I called the local Fareway...where they were purchased...talked to the produce manager and he said to ask for a refund at checkout...no questions asked. But when I called Dole, all I got was an automated message the same as your info. I think I'll put out the remaining lettuce starts today. Maybe start some more under lights.

I found this interesting; it's from the article cited by tom 🕊: "Food production is complex, and following proper food safety handling techniques is very difficult." That's all the more reason to grow one's own food.
