I've looked at some of the series. I appreciate that they are advanced in light of the usual stuff on TV, and applaud the series for that reason. Probably a new perspective for many watchers. My disagreement is that I do not regard everything on Earth from the position: Is it good for humans? I believe every species, every life form has a value in and of itself, and has a right to existence. (exception: ticks!). I believe that the concept which most humans have - that humans are at the apex, and everything on Earth exists to be exploited by humans - has lead us to the current climate catastrophe.

I believe that the concept which most humans have - that humans are at the apex, and everything on Earth exists to be exploited by humans - has lead us to the current climate catastrophe. I would attribute that mentality to the fact that we are sentient, and able to verbally communicate our thoughts. In my world plants are at the apex of the evolutionary chain, for two reasons: plants don't fight with competitors for a mate; plants don't need to kill to eat, for they can make their own food. Plants are the most perfect organisms in our world, completely self-reliant and self-sufficient (although many plants benefit from the presence of pollinators) . And finally, plants support ALL of the other creatures on Earth, allowing them to exist (except maybe for some bacteria). We humans seem to be doing exactly the opposite.

Many people seem to think that humans were put here to rape, plunder, and pillage this planet we live and do not seem to realize that the resources we have are finite. Water, essential for our life, is not being made today and has not been since the world was formed, what we have is what we have but some seem bent on poisoning it as quickly as possible. I was taught that we should leave our world in a better condition than we found it.

Don't Venus Fly Traps kill to eat?
As for humans being the apex species, that doesn't require us to plunder, as Kimm said. We have been granted incredible power to influence our planet, that is without question. What we do with that power is the critical question.

I don't mean to offend anyone or get all religious
I believe God put humans on earth to rein over all other creatures... but that does not mean to destroy the planet in the process.
We are to be shepherds of the planet, caring for it and not be wasteful of what it offers us.

I saw a documentary once, cannot remember the name, but it was about believers who were caring for the Earth in very effective ways, and their caring came out of their religious beliefs.
