So, walking the dog, I see this house with some veggies planted out front. I niticed when they put in the peppers, my store bought starts were a few weeks ahead of theirs.
But today! They have peppers on them!! Maybe golf ball size, but still!@
So my pepper abortions are NOT due to weather....
Argh!!!

I feel your pain tbird. I drive past a community garden everyday to and from work. You should see the size of some of the plants in these gardens. Holy Cow. I can only guess that they are full of Miracle Grow. That's what I'm telling myself anyway.

I would also guess artificial fertilizers! Or maybe a bunch of cow crap. My dad uses aged manure and his veggies grow well.
Just to make you feel worse tbird, I have some bell peppers golf ball size. I started them from seed.

I just saw my first Superchili beginning to ripen today! And about a 7-8" long Big Jim. So it's not only miracle grow peppers.

Well with the temp of 60 now, I think it's going to be awhile for my peppers too.

I can't wait to see my garden tomorrow to see what I have. But we have had nothing but rain and 60 degree weather here too so I am guessing not much has happened.

tbird- none of my peppers or chiles are doing great this year. slow-slow-slow Bell peppers and the Puerto Rico peppers are tiny plants. My chiles are better, but not like they usually are by this time.
We've had more rain than in the past several years, so I'm thinking the grey days have something to do with it. But I don't really know. Just taking a guess. It's the only thing that is different for the chiles. The PR peppers are new to me so I don't know....

All of my various peppers are doing great this year, too. Peppers are usually not a crop I have troubles with. For me it's bug issues with greens, cucurbits, and Things Japanese Beetles eat. Those are my typical battles.

I have a number of tomatoes growing which because of my mix up I cannot yet tell for sure what they are but some are the cherry tomatoes, sungold on one, that's the only one I know for sure and it looks like I have 2 other cherry tomatoes which are either Chadwick Cherries from Renee's Seeds or Matt's wild Cherry from Pinetree. I have a couple tomato plants that may be Beefsteak from Bakers Creek from heirloom seeds or they could be Black Krim. I also started Tomatoberry from Pinetree which is also a cherry. But so far, what I can see is that there is no BER. Can't you tell that from the very beginning when the tomato starts to grow? I usually have a couple or 3 with BER in the beginning of the season.
I have about 3 yellow peppers on one plant from starts I bought (green at this point) and at least 2 on another started, not sure if it is yellow or orange, also from start I bought. The peppers from my own seedlings are still quite small but growing and have flowerbuds.

I have lots of BER on my tomatoes this year. Also just plain rot and splitting because it never stops raining. Still there are lots of tomatoes and lots of ripe tomatoes. Also peppers are doing very well this year. Everyone's cucumbers are doing well with all the rain. I have the flower drop problem with my pole beans. I had only a few of them so far and that is depressing. Bush beans were fine but pole beans just won't set.

today is nice summer weather, and I have been staking the toms. Lot of tomatoes coming through and lots of blossoms too. Lush foliage, so I think that bed is in good shape and a bit of sun and warmth will bring a nice harvest.....with patience.
There is ONE pepper on one of the giant marconis that looks just a wee bit beyond the pea size stage that has been being aborted...hopefully - this one will not drop. I noticed it was in shade by 12-1 oclock due to a weed sampling that I want taken down, but this year - it is already beyond my 2" nippers...going to ask my brother to help me with this.
I want to call a tree service as I have about 10 samplings (advanced to trees really) that have gotten away from me and I can't take them down. Some among power wires, etc.
But this one shading my peppers???? nu huh! must be dealt with pronto....and no wires, and not near fences, neighbors property etc.
