I had a kitten one time that I got in the summer when it was hot. I had the windows open all the time to keep the apartment cool. As the season started getting cooler I closed the window one night. I heard the cat jumped up on the window sill and I heard a huge MEOW! out of her because when she hit her head unexpectantly on the now closed window. This same kitten would sit on the edge of the tub when I took a shower and would down inside the tub to figut=re out whether this was something to explore further or what. I finished with the shower and opened the curtain to find her there and she decided to take the plunge into the bottom of the tub where it had a little bit of pooled water and when she did she realized this is something she really did NOT want to continue to explore and immediately flew out of the tub and almost into the toilet which was very close. She never did that again but she did sit on the tub edge anyway.

Stop me if I've told this story before... My dear friend Mac is currently in Indiana recovering (hopefully) from a quadruple bypass. So, I am pet sitting his puppy Lucky. Lucky is the shepherd and Honey is the smaller yellow pup. Well, when I first brought Lucky home, I put him out the back door to go potty. Lucky had other plans. He walked to the other side of the yard, opened the chain link gate, up to the front door and....pushed right through the screen, and PUSHED open the front door which was latched. But on the bright side, I got a lovely front screen/security door Not to mention how smart the shepherd is. I top off their water at night and at about 2am, it will be empty. He will bring it to my side of the bed and bark until I wake up to refill it.

Nice door! Smart dog. I wonder if he is German bred? Thanks! I don't know his background. Mac (his owner) has had him for years. Lucky is either 9, 11, or 14 years old. Mac and his wife Joan picked lucky up as a stray, so no lineage known. He does have a very high prey drive though. My last shepherd had a high prey drive towards the end of her life. She would snap at kittens. Lucky I guess has hated small creatures all his life(?) Whatever he is, he is VERY smart and VERY protective. Wherever I sit in the house, he lays with his back towards me, and his head toward the door or opening. Luckily him and my pup honey get along great. She is always licking his face and muzzle. I read that it is a sign of submission but also of affection. Even honey has changed attitudes. She is more laid back. I actually dread the day Mac comes home and takes lucky back home with him.....

I was gardening one day & heard a pitiful meow & looked up to find a painfully thin kitten. Gave him some food & he started chirping. Never could purr right, just made that chirping sound. Of course I had to keep him. Named him Festus. We already had Miss Kitty. We had a dalmation, one of the dumbest dogs I ever had. He was a great kids dog though. The youngest boy would wrestle him mercilessly, throwing him in the air & all kinds of stuff. He loved it. He used to have an old blanket in his doghouse & would get it out & throw it in the air & catch it & roll around. It was fun to watch. We had a Basset that started coming by kind of regularly & he was obviously pretty old so we started putting water out for him since we didn't have a dog at that time & it was hot out. We called him Baxter & he answered to it but always looked at us cock-eyed like dogs do when they are puzzled. One day the neighbor stopped & was talking & saw the basset drinking water & said "oh you've been putting water out for Buster." I guess Baxter was close enough but he knew we weren't saying it right.
