Pipevine is a funny looking thing, I have never seen one. Maybe it grows in far southern Iowa. So I bet it's the black swallowtail that I see.

No sighting yet. We did see a Western Tiger Swallowtail a few days ago. Beautiful and big wing span.

Awww ...doesn't that make you feel so sad? Even though few make it to adulthood you wonder if something someone unintentionally caused it...

Heres some English butterflies for you, sorry for the poor quality but my phone doesn't make it easy to capture small flying objects Chalkhill blue (Lysandra coridon) www.learnaboutbutterflies.com/Britain%20-%20Lysandra%20coridon.htmAction shot of male chalkhill trying to pursue the female, which are completely different in colour than the males And this is where they are found appropriately on chalk downland often facing south as this one is. France is about 60 miles to the right. Usually they are very abundant, there were probably hundreds there when i was walking around but i have seen thousands before if you get the timing right. Has to be short grassland appropriately kept trimmed by livestock so the sun can get to the short turf to warm the soil Heres a poor shot of one of the most colorful english butterflies the Peacock (Inachis io) www.learnaboutbutterflies.com/Britain%20-%20Inachis%20io.htm
