My mullein is beginning to bloom; there are only a few flowers toward the top of the spire, but with all the sun we're expecting, I'm sure the other buds will open quickly.
I'm assuming that b/c it's a perennial (wildflower), it won't be as affected by intense sun? It's on the West side, where the sun is the most direct on the house and plants. OTOH, the mullein in the garden is struggling. But the S half of the garden is in shade almost all day long; the West side (and front of the house) gets no shade at all, except underneath the junipers and arborvitae which I planted for the specific need of shade.
My mullein is now about 6' tall, but the buds aren't opening much more than they were the last time I posted. I think it's grown about a half a foot in the last week. I don't see any obvious signs of disease, and there still are buds that appear ripe for opening. Not sure what's going on with the plant. Perhaps there's just too much heat, or too much rain, or both.
