We had a Pekinese puppy for 14 years and he had problems with food from the start. He had several attacks of Pancreatitis and could not have kibble or canned food. What I found was ground lamb was very good for him and he loved it. I cooked in it a skillet and served it with cooked carrots mashed up. He loved to chew on carrots. I also fed him baby food, especially the chicken sticks. I bought treats from the Doggie Bakery that had peanut butter in them and very healthy for him. What we won't do for our dear pets....

I'm glad I found this thread. I am not a cat person. But when I moved into this current house, I wound up with a free kitten. She is four years old now, and I can't imagine my life without her. She is a talker and we have long "conversations" in the morning lol. I'm going to write these recipes down. I want my "kitten" to live a very very long time Here she is with her babies Lilolpeapicker, I wish you the best with your friend. I have a feeling, honey pecan will be just fine Having a cat friend is different. With dogs, the love is unconditional immediately. With cats, you have to earn that love. I had a rough patch there for a while, and unfortunately the cat suffered. But she has never held it against me, and she runs to the door to meet me whenever I come in or out. I wouldn't trade her for anything. Attachments:

Cats are so darn independent, yet they are such love bugs too.
There is an old saying: Dogs have masters, cats have staff.

I always thought cats were very independent and to some extent they are but I realized how much they (at least she) need a human. No they don't need to go"outside" to do their business but if I didn't clean her litterbox she'd go on the bed! She sits with me most the time. Yesterday, I removed my bra and tossed it on the couch and later I found her rolling her head and body on it as I have seen her doing with other articles of clothing I left on the bed.

Our cat Grace thinks we are part of her den. She expects us to understand everything she communicates to us! And there is no doubt she is communicating.

We have a pair of litter mates a male and a female, 8 years old. They are both picky eaters. The boy used to throw up a lot.
What helped us with his throwing up was to raise the food and water bowls. The cats now sit on their bottoms to eat and belly up to a platform with bowls at the same level as their chests. They are not fighting gravity to swallow food. This has helped the Chairman immensely. We were cleaning up puke once or twice per day. Now it's more like once per month. If that.
Cats like stinky food. We have the best luck with canned food that contains liver, tuna, sardines, or salmon. We noticed the picky cats loved to kick the gravy and juice off of the food and leave the meat...so we started adding some water to the canned food and pureeing the food with an immersion blender...it's all gravy if it is pureed!
Dry food is also hard for the cats. They are extremely picky. Once we find two foods they like, one changes the fornula, and they will no longer eat it. Hence the need to always have two foods they will eat.
The cats will not eat people food except for fatty dairy like butter, cream, etc. We could leave tuna steaks, rotisserie chicken, shrimp cocktail out on the floor and they wouldn't recognize it as food. But it's not safe to leave the butter uncovered!
Good luck with your cat. I hope you find a food plan that works for you.

Actually I don't know why I hadn't made her food a long time ago. I am guessing she is allergic to one of preservatives put in it. Since making her food she is going a lot longer. Last time she was at the vet's was 1&1/2months ago.... Only tossing up her food a couple of times. She was going every 3 weeks to get a steroid shot to keep down her food.

Oh, I am so glad to hear that she is doing better. That makes so much sense, that it could be a preservative or additive of some kind.
When you think of it, cats, in the wild, eat clean food. Our cat loves the homemade food made with chicken or turkey. In fact, she refused to eat some supposedly high quality canned food, when we were on a road trip with her, one time, and ran out of homemade.

She is doing pretty well but I have had to resort to dry grain free food because I wasn't home much to feed her. I work 1/2 hr from home and time between a.m. and p.m. runs I have had meetings....too many... and the run is longer than I expected this year so when get an hour I run home to I feed her.... and run back to work...if I leave the food down she gorges herself and then gets sick and I find gifts left for me in various spots throughout the house. poor baby! I have to make up more homemade food for her...There is just so little time with the extra hours I am getting. She really needs someone home more often

I had a cat that DH named Chesai. She also had digestive problems. When she got older the vet said her kidneys were going. I had to take her in often for IV fluids. She decided to only eat raw hamburger. She was pretty picky though. She would eat hamburger from all the stores I shopped except Walmart. She would turn her nose up at Walmart hamburger & walk away.
