My brother was home all last week because his dayhab closes for the Jewish holidays (but is open for most secular and non-Jewish ones). Talk about burnout. Fortunately the organization that includes his dayhab had a special program at Adventure Land with the rides and shows, music and refreshments. I signed up my son and his family to go with him. They all had a good time and I got a much needed break. Because of the holiday and the weather, I hadn't harvested since Thursday. This morning I went out and picked a lot of beans, tomatoes, peppers and a few squash, cukes and eggplant. Then came in and just sat and relaxed. Played a little solitaire and free cell on the computer. Read a little. Watched a law and order. So relaxing-no appointments, phone calls, shopping; just relaxing and letting burnout float away.

I think my burnout is directly related to issues going on in my life at the moment. Car shopping took up much of last week's summer-like days and today I have a meeting at school that I requested a few weeks ago because of dissatisfaction of the way kiddo's education is being approached (or rather not approached at all). So while I've been looking forward to a killing frost, I think I'm actually pleased that I still have stuff producing and will have some small harvests yet.
Last year the burnout was so severe that I had no desire to visit the garden towards the end of the season. This year visiting brings me solace and I'm eager to move forward in regards to garden expansion and improvements. Of course tomorrow I may feel differently. C'est la vie.

So while I've been looking forward to a killing frost, LOL. You are lucky to have them, I guess. My burnout is lessened (not gone) thanks to giving myself permission to letting some things just go, and then only doing tasks that bring joy or immediate gratification.

My burnout has significantly decreased. I think it's in part to taking some relaxation time and getting over a cold. Have tackled garden projects this week with spring-like enthusiasm.

Y'all need an intervention.

Y'all need an intervention. Instead of a traditional intervention, how about a leisurely train ride through wine country?

Throw in some chocolate and I'll come along for the ride. Personal choice, of course, but one really can indulge in both. Though I'd probably put the actual train ride at the top of the list.

I’d love another ride on the Amtrak Coast Starlight. It’s like a rolling postcard. We traveled from Sacramento to Tacoma at Christmastime. Chocolate would be good.

I love train travel, especially in the olden days, and with rail passes in various foreign lands. Fun times. The freedom of youth.

My parents were raised in Rochester NY and we took the train from Los Angeles to Rochester in the 50s to early 60s ,every other summer. Thus started my love affair with train travel. As kids we could explore the length of the train and the conductor would set up a game table for kids to play at. And yes! Rail passes in foreign countries. And those crowded trains of India! Oh my. Even 10 years ago when we were in Italy, train was the way to get from one region to another. It's a great way to interact with locals, break bread together and share stories. I still love train travel and always will.
