Under milk jugs in the gardens that I planted last weekend are sprouting.
I was out there peeking in the opening of the jugs and this morning! I am trying to refrain from Sunday morning squealing because hubby hates that!
I have crimson sweet watermelon, green tiger zucchini, dill, basil, and I think one okra is up, but it might be a weed in there. I forget what okra babies look like. It's been a while since I grew them.
Next weekend I will start my Howden pumpkins.
Carrots have been out there for at least 12 days. I see one sprout. I hate that! They aren't under milk jugs.
I'll start another row at the end of the month.

what temps do you have?
we are going to low 40s for 2 nights in a row this week. Next weekend I will plant out the peppers and toms, and do more direct seeding of warm weather stuff.
I just put my okra into cell packs, so hope to transplant when they are very tiny.

My direct sow stuff waits till end of May. I did throw some old gourd seeds along a fence to see what happens and a few have sprouted. I direct sow zuccs, beans, cucumbers. I started the tomatoes, peppers a couple of watermelons, a few pumpkins and some flowers in the house. They will probably got out in a few weeks depending on the weather.

Planted the pole beans yesterday. Tomatoes, peppers and eggplant are out in their milk jugs with mulch piled around them. They may sit there for a bit, but that's OK. They have been kicked out of the house like any kid that has overstayed their welcome! They are on their own with a little help from mom. I will keep them warm and protected!

Aside from the early direct seeded lettuces, kale, swiss chard and peas, like datgirl, it will be end of May before seed beans and some squashes.

42 degrees this evening. I do have some cool weather stuff up in the garden. I reckon it will be OK. I did just plant some corn. I am going to wait until it looks a bit warmer to plant cukes, beans and squash.

I am planning some direct seeding this week. It is supposed to cool off but only down to the 60's and the seeds will take several days to germinate anyway. Squash seeds are cheap and plentiful and I only plant one hill of each type so if I have to replant, I don't really mind but if they make it then I am going to get my squash sooner.

Some carrots in one bed came up and in the other bed I have ONE sprout. Argh! I have such a hard time germinating carrots.
And something is liking my nasturtiums...every sprout that comes up gets chomped down. Drat.

Yank,
Carrots irritate me too. And it was a bit early for me, but the weather was good. And I was using some old seed to get rid of it. hahaha I see a few more out there. I normally cover soil with burlap when I seed and I will do that on my real planting.
I took the jug off of my green tiger zucchini today. They better be out there in the morning.
Here is a pic, ain't they cute?
I only need one hill of those.

Lisaann - like you, I refrained from planting lots of zucchini. Only did two plants this year!

I direct seed all sorts of things in the garden all the time. No covers. About the only things I transplant are tomatoes and peppers.
Zucchini? Oh my, I am afraid I went over board. Planted two packets of seed, two varieties. Got a row about 35 feet long.

I planted 4 zucchini seeds yesterday and if they all grow I will thin them to 2 plants. I also planted Burpee's new hybrid yellow squash called saffron, patty pan and a new bush spaghetti squash called Goldetti.
We really like squash and I make lots of stir fry's.
Tonight I am making pasta primavera and I had to BUY a zucchini!
