So glad you got the photos posted. I'll bet that he snow against the sides of the WOW's actually helped insulate the plants from the 30 degree air.
I was telling hubby about this and he said that the "dead" ones will probably pop back up from their roots which will still be alive. He said to cut off the stem but leave the roots.
When he was a kid his Dad bought tomato seedlings in bunches (like we see onions sold) and sometimes he would have a plant with a broken off plant and just roots. He grew tomatoes for sale to canneries. He would throw those plants away but hubby rescued them and planted in his own little garden. He said that they always grew even if there was only a little piece of stem left.

I think tomatoes are like grapes...If the roots are there they will continue to grow which makes me wonder about putting tomato stalks deeper in the ground. Don't you get extra plants coming through. I have laid them down deeper because I read it in the OG forums a long time ago. Thats what happened in my garden.

I have had tomatoes that froze send out new shoots if the stems didn't freeze completely.

Woo Hoo! Great pics.
Yep, I think in the end you will have 8 out of 8!
I hope GMAN sees your pics. He loves trying to get his tomatos in real early under WOW's. And you just PROVED that he isn't the only one to have success!

Yes, it is nearly gone, the crick below the house is flooding so hard we could hear the water running. Interesting what you said about the tomatoes, because I had a single plant grow, a black pineapple, seed given to me by a man at work. Anyway the top got too close to the lights, and cooked. I was going to throw it away, but didn't and after a couple of days when I came on it again, there was a little leaf, out of the cotyledon junction that was forming, so I watered it and put it back under the lights. We will see.

Like my hubby said to me "tomato plants are not as delicate as you think!".

Some times in late summer when my plants are looking pretty bad, I some times cut off all the foliage and just leave some stems. They will grow back & produce for me as long as the weather holds here. So it is like getting a second wind?
