Noticed it growing between the Nine Bark and Tri-color Willow. Only about 3" high and never seen them in the yard before! It has spiked leaves like daffodils.

That looks very much like "Glory-of-the-Snow". I don't believe it grows wild, so would have had to be planted by either you or by someone nearby.

breezygardener , Sure looks like pics I just searched for! But I'm clueless how it got here! We have been here 16 years and this is the first time I've seen it. Pretty little things! Maybe they will spread, hoping! No one in our neighborhood does "flowers"........

Flowers are only about 1/2” diameter. Very dainty. And only 2 leaf spikes per plant. Nothing like Columbine.

Mumsey, is that area where you might have spread city compost/mulch? Perhaps a squirrel brought you a present.

binnylou, no, I don't bring city compost home due to all the various "new" weeds I don't currently have. Squirrel might be the answer!

Garden Fairies spreading magic! That looks like a keeper. Might be worth saving seeds.

I’ll do some digging around and see if there’s bulbs.

Mumsey, Yes, those are bulbs. We have tons of those here. I have tried to reduce the number, but no luck. Soon you may have more than you bargained for

Yes - they do seem to "escape" from yards rather readily.

Dug one up. There is a bulb. I noticed that in just a couple days the leaf spikes have doubled in size and some have 3 blooms on single stalk. Cool.

I’m still in FL. My sister forgot a bag of sunflower seed that was outside and got wet and she tossed them behind the property fence where construction is going on. Forgot about them. Yesterday we noticed random sunflowers in the construction site..some clumps some singles. Pretty addition. Dispersed by birds and sm animals.
