Happy winter solstice to all and to all, um... yeah, time to start ordering seeds! That's what it is.
This is when I start making up my list of what to order. I think I am going to buy everything new and not take any chances with poor germination. Old seeds will be donated to the local seed exchange, as I am sure most will still produce. I am also going to plant fewer varieties since I've zeroed in on what works for us here. I hope to have my seed and plant orders placed within two weeks, will pick up a few bags of Jiffy Mix and order some more flats.

Happy winter solstice to all and to all, um... yeah, time to start ordering seeds! That's what it is. I think of today as when the days start getting longer. It's no coincidence that all/most of the world's religions have some of their most important holidays around this time of year that involve feasting and celebrating. As for seeds, I think I have all I need. But I've said that before...

I have my alarm set so that I don’t “miss the moment”. 😁

Soon more chicken eggs will be coming. Never get any on the solstice. They know. Recently read that chickens have a third "eye". This is light sensitive tissue on the top of their heads which not only tracks the amount of light, but the quality of light also. (Book was How to Speak Chicken: Why Your Chickens Do What They Do & Say What They Say by Melissa Caughey- a facinating read).

I plan to do a small BC order but other than that I think I'm pretty much done seed shopping.

Even though it will be a few days before the daylight actually starts getting longer, I can feel the swing of the pendulum to longer daylight in my body. It is such a visceral relief.

I plan to do a small BC order but other than that I think I'm pretty much done seed shopping. Unless it's something new that I really, REALLY want, I tend to wait for the "dueling" seed company wars. Before you know it they'll all be trying to outdo themselves with discounts & free shipping.

I agree, I usually wait to see if there will be seed sales especially those with shipping deals too. I’m pretty good on seeds right now but always start a list of what i am low or running out as I am planting of so I can have that list ready. Heard some stores are already putting out their seeds and of course word again is to expect higher seed prices and early sell outs.

I had hoped to celebrate Winter Solstice with a bonfire, but Mother Nature changed my plans. So, I lit a candle and called it “good ‘nuf”.
I’ve been trying to make this a tradition, but cold is cold, and we’re old.
