With seed selections waiting to be purchased or deleted? I have a cart that I’ve been working on/playing with for at least a week. It currently has 20 items and the value is about $65. I need to tinker some more. I’ve got wave petunias, zinnias, yellow Marconi peppers and more. Not a tomato in the cart What’s in your cart?

I sometimes have an Amazon cart going. Usually it's because I have to check the size of something to be sure I have the right one, something like that, but usually don't keep it open for very long. I try not to do a lot of Amazon shopping anyway. I prefer shopping in a store.

No cart. I don't shop for seeds online (last year being the exception for ordering to support Ukraine donations)
And I rarely shop Amazon or other online retailers. Though I will admit that this year we ordered almost all our Christmas gifts for family who are in different states, through Amazon. The reason: the astronomical prices that the PO, UPS, FedEx now charge for mailing things (many times, it's more than the value of the content!!). Amazon has free shipping and that made the difference. I have mixed feelings because it's likely the high mailing costs through the PO, etc are a result of retailers like Amazon. But when I can save $150-200 in mailing costs, that's real $$, not just 10 or 20 bucks

I often have carts with seed companies and Amazon. I left my Pinetree cart for a day or two and received an email reminding me and offering 10% off, which wasn’t as good as the 15% off deal they offered at the time, but still a nice gesture. Prices on Amazon can fluctuate quickly as I discovered recently. I dulled my last rotary cutter blade and went to Walmart for replacements prior to checking online and paid over $20 for five blades. When I thought to check on Amazon, I discovered the exact same blades were $7.50 and added to my cart. When I went back later I discovered they'd increased to over $10. So over the course of a few day I kept checking and the prices kept fluctuating. I decided that I'd add four to my cart and if the dropped to $7 again, I'd place my order. When the price was at $7.02 I ordered and received them a few days later.

emmsmommy, I too received the Pinetree reminder and discount offer. I decided that this year I wouldn’t rush to complete the order just to save a few bucks, then need to place another order for things I might have forgotten. Or something the enablers in this group might suggest. Either way, I’d be paying two shipping fees. Trying to shop smarter, I am.

I like to wait until the seed companies start to get desperate - lol!! It's too irritating to place an order & then two weeks later get an e-mail offering a 20% discount &/or free shipping for the same items.

I first inventory my seeds, then list what I need to replace or to look for other varieties with better qualities. Next I go through the various catalogs and find the seeds I need plus others I am interested in. I write the catalog abbreviation and price on my shopping list. When making my order lists, I see who has the lowest price on a seed. If a company has only a few seeds I want, I may get them from another company for a few cents more if it will save another shipping fee. Once I finish, I go on line and order.

I like to wait until the seed companies start to get desperate It's a balancing act, as while waiting for a discount, you may find the seed you really need has sold out.

It's a balancing act, as while waiting for a discount, you may find the seed you really need has sold out. I waited a little too long for something from Baker Creek last year and signed up to be notified when it was back in stock. Since the shipping was free, I went ahead and ordered when it was back in stock. This year is pretty much some new varieties, stuff I'm eager to try (like cardoons), flowers and onions. I picked up a new tomato variety when I bought the Burpee selections seeds for ten cents last month and don't plan on growing any other new tomatoes this year.

It's a balancing act, as while waiting for a discount, you may find the seed you really need has sold out. Yes - that can happen. But honestly? I've yet to need something that I can't find from several different vendors.
