In the fall of 2018, I purchased two two big red mums at the Dutchmans’s in Cantril (my favorite place to buy stuff I don’t need). Those mums put on a beautiful show this year. They are planted next to the barn foundation on the south side. That garnet red looks great adjacent to the aging cedar siding on the barn.
I’ve not removed the dead foliage yet. I’m kinda thinking I’ll wait for Spring to do that. I’ll probably just add some wood chip/mulch this fall, but I do want to split them to increase the fall color. Who has propagated mums by splitting? Is there a best time to do it?
I can’t remember the name right now. Somewhere, I have the pot ID tag. I plan to harvest some seeds, just in case it’s OP.

I've only had luck with Mums one time many years ago. They came back a few years then died off. Never had luck with them again. Sorry I have no answers for you.

binnylou, I have split mums before, although I didn't get rid of the center as suggested in the link below, which probably accounts for some not growing. Spring does seem to be the best time, at least in my area. splitting mums

Are they garden mums or hardy mums? If they are garden mums you are lucky to have them this long! I've never had luck past 3 years with the hardy variety.
Been to Cantril once, it was fun but quite a drive from here!
