Does anyone know if native azaleas are deer-resistant?
All of my locally-grown but non-native azaleas have been taking regular beatings from our resident deer, yet in my travels recently passing by local woodlands I'm seeing absolutely beautiful native azaleas full & blooming, which leaves me to believe that the deer don't find them appealing.
I looked online, but so far can't find anything about their deer-resistance at all.

My source for native plants in my area is the Native Plant Trust: plantfinder.nativeplanttrust.org/index.cfm/fuseaction/plants.kwSearchPost/index.htm?CFID=8c506aed-4ebd-420d-a12f-05f69078b0bc&CFTOKEN=0Looking through the different species and cultivars, unfortunately none of these appear to be deer resistant. In the end, it all depends on how hungry the deer are and whether there happen to be better options in the area for them.

It's just that my non-native azaleas take a beating every year, yet less than a mile from my homestead I'm passing gorgeous native azaleas in full bloom in the local woodlands, which are chock full of deer. It just stymies me.
