The big one for me is getting a mulch delivery - which is scheduled for tomorrow afternoon - the last day of the month. I can hardly wait to start. There however was a really big rattler in the yard yesterday, so that will slow me down for a few days until I forget about it.

1. Clean chicken coop. 2. Dig out layer of compost in chicken pen and spread on garden beds.
3. Pot up everything.
4. Plant potatoes in grow bags. 5. Weed everything and mulch. Well, got most beds done. Have one more bed to go. 6. Plant out everything. Still need to set out some greens and strawberries and start the warmer temp seeds-cukes, squash etc.
7. Mow. 8. Plant sale. Started. The main place I post was down since Thursday (think Moderators were on vacation). 9 Put down wood chips in chicken pen and possibly dig a drainage ditch, filling it with gravel. 10. Plant porch flowers. almost done 11. Make some wire tomato cages. (bought the wire) 12. Find new spot for hammock. 13. Spend some time in aforementioned hammock.

I got just about all I wanted to do done in May, at least in the garden. One thing I didn't do, that I wanted to, was make another raised bed, but I put that on hold, due to the high price of lumber, even before gas and diesel prices skyrocketed. No telling what it is now. Main things I have left to do are in the house, which is always the way!

but I put that on hold, due to the high price of lumber, Always a way around. Wood Pallets are one place to get boards. Scrounge around and you may find some wood you can repurpose, perhaps from a demolition site, recycled wood store or Craigs list. The following article has good suggestions to start with: www.housebeautiful.com/shopping/a26080016/reclaimed-wood-best-places-to-buy/

Scrounge around and you may find some wood you can repurpose... For the first time in many years we are without a truck, so hauling anything fairly long is out of the question and I don't think I can get a pallet in my SUV without gouging up the interior ,(though I hope to do some measuring to confirm one way or the other). However I did build my last bed of leftover concrete blocks that were lying around. So when hubby come home with a load of used 12" blocks I was ecstatic as I can make two more beds and our only cost was gas to go get them. My uncle offered me some leftover composite lumber from their porch but I haven't had a chance to look at it yet to see if it's of useable lengths. I could also build a bed out of the brick I brought home or the leftover brick from the house, but have other plans for it. One of my favorite ideas is to weave a wattle fence and I've also noticed beds made using that technique as well. While lumber does look nice, sometimes you just have to utilize what you can find unless spouses or HOAs say otherwise. Which reminds me that I need to post a photo of my herb bed as it's a collection of found materials.

Woohoo! New rain barrel cleaned out, faucet installed and no leaks! Unfortunately the old barrel has a small leak around the faucet so will need to seal that off. Walks through the field will be less often as the coyotes were howling a little too close this evening.

Slipped up and didn't complete items #1 and #7. Was hoping to visit the various plots and assist Roxy in her CG. Back issues kept me from the free compost at the Rancho. June goals are already whizzing past me.

New thread for June goals: organicgroup.freeforums.net/thread/5407/garden-goals-juneMy May goals: 1. Mulch delivery done2. More critter habitat clearing. On-going because stuff grows back.. a good amount done, but always more to do3. Work on the burmuda grass sprouts to prevent it from coming back a little here, a little there. It all adds up, esp when there is no rain4. Continue with making irrigation more efficient. We might have to ration water this summer. . the front areas (except trees) are now all attached to one outlet, and I easily can turn on or off all areas. 5. Start working outside earlier in the day to prevent silly distractions. Not yet successful on this one.
