A while ago I saw an advertisement for using human ashes to make a diamond. I jokingly asked my girls if they would want a stone to which I received 3 deer in the headlight looks. As we speak, there are ashes from my Dad and my brother on my mantle...Dad wanted to be dispersed at sea (navy man) and my brother wanted the same. We have since learned that it is illegal to do that here at in CT. So the natural burial would have been a better option. I rarely visit family members graves. Catholic now allow cremation but ashes must be kept at a blessed site. $$. So...I’m going to find a boat with blind sailors aboard and honor their wishes. My brother would love that I was breaking the law..

Dad wanted to be dispersed at sea (navy man) and my brother wanted the same. CT has jurisdiction to 3 nautical miles out to sea and the law does not pertain after that distance. You can honor their wishes by chartering a boat for the occasion and I am sure you could find someone through the local American Legion to arrange for a service and to have "Taps" played.

Marty, thank you. I knew about the 3 miles but did not connect the dots. How fitting that would be.

Found this post by Susan Harris on Garden Rant: gardenrant.com/2023/11/natures-sanctuary-laurel-hill-cemetery-green-burial.html?lctg=60535844Lots of pictures of beautiful gardens in Laurel Hill Cemetery. Some areas are for green burials. GardenRants, by the way, is a blog by "horticulturists, authors, nursery owners, columnists, ecologists, speakers, and activists". I read the posts and find most interesting, educational, amusing or some combination of these qualities. Occasionally one is not and I delete it, but some I love. Worth taking a look around.
