Tree colors are beautiful this fall. We have three hard Maples that we dug and transplanted at least 35 years ago, harvested from the farm of my friend Lucy. We had four of them, but lost one when a power line was buried nearby. Those trees are putting on a beautiful show this year.
The young Maple tree planted four years ago seemed to be changing by the hour yesterday. It has gone glorious overnight.
The cranberry bush is mostly red on the south side, not much of a show on the north side.
The real stars of the yard are the Bald Cypress. In afternoon sun yesterday, most of their needle like foliage was the color of an aged pumpkin.
How’s your fall color this year? Are you making time to be outside to enjoy the colors?
I sometimes this color change is Mother Nature’s way of easing us in to the winter that’s on its way.

Late color here, this year, due to the warmth, but soon that changes! A lot of it is related to length of day, but it is definitely delayed by the warmth. Even the sugar maple across the street - earliest to change most years - is barely colored. Leaves are dropping, however!

Our trees seem to be behind schedule as well, but the Red Sunset maples are getting their deep red color! And only one burning bush has turned completely red. Odd, they are all within 5 ft of each other.

We don't get the Fall colors that you all get in wetter climes but we do get our own show and I landscape our private garden with Fall color in mind. Our colors are running later than usual and they have been extraordinary this year. The best in many many years. It's the first of November and there are still leaves on certain trees. I see rust, red, gold, yellow and green in my yard. Marigolds and lobelia still blooming and sedum autumn joy standing in their rust splendor. The hardy plumbago is brilliant red, the peony a gorgeous deep gold. The hawthorn and crab apple trees have bright red fruits mixed with gold leaves. The gold paper birch leaves have all dropped. We are definitely past the peak but it's still beautiful out there.
