Well, first it was cold and everything died, then it was dry until 5/1/21 and everything was dead or dying, then it rained so much that most of it drowned, and what didn't drown grew up in weeds. Even the compost pile is completely overgrown. We did get some veggies though when we could battle the mosquitos. Now it's hot and humid.
I'm going to do some fishing for the rest of the Summer and see if I can grow some fall tomatoes!

I'm going to do some fishing Do you plant the fish remains in your garden? I used to do that when we lived in the country, I would dig a hole where each tomato would be planted. Seemed to work well!

Mumsey , actually, no, I don't. My oldest son does something similar but a lot grosser. He makes a sort of emulsion and pours that in a hole and covers it up. It evidently works extremely well. I suppose in some post apocalyptic scenario I might give it a try but for now the buzzards feast. For a little over 20 years I had another outlet for fish heads and remains. Our local Catholic Priest was originally from Ghana. He wanted all the heads and such for his fish head soup. He would boil up a big pot of that stuff and eat just like he was back home again. Several of the priests in the area were also from Ghana and they'd all get together and have a fish head soup party. He only wanted fish with scales though, no catfish. I'd also take him fish as well. His favorite way to cook them was over a bed of coals in his small BBQ pit with a little salt and pepper and a lemon. I'm not Catholic but he was a good man. Probably one of the most Christlike people I have ever known. Simple in what he took from life and enormous in what he gave back. He had been all over the world. He died from complications from simple gall bladder surgery. I miss talking with him and think of him every time I clean fish. The SOP was go fishing, clean fish, open the back door and tell #1 wife "I'm going to Father Ralph's. Oh well, life goes on... Alan

In my previous post I mentioned the onions were a disappointment. Well lo and behold the onions in one bed have bulbed up nicely. Nothing huge but better than I originally expected. The bed that grew the absolute best lettuce is growing the absolute worst onions. Tomatoes are beginning to produce and peppers are overloaded. I opted to let some of the lettuce plants go to seed and it's actually been a positive experience as the bright yellow flowers bring a bit of color in the garden, especially on the red varieties.

The weather here in our little corner of the world, the past few years, has been basically dumb. Here where we are in NE Ohio we are just on the edge of the snow belt and Lake Erie's lake effect, so flip a coin. All that to say, I started my seeds inside later than usual because in the past earlier was a disaster. My friend came down with his big tractor and tilled for me mid May, which seemed perfect timing, even though I had fingers crossed. Worked like a dog to stake out the garden, get it planted and here came the snow. Then it was time to dry the garden out and bake it >,< and then here came the rain. sigh
My tomatoes and peppers are not doing much yet, but the beans are insane lol
