We had a half inch right after the big freeze and not a drop since, until today... Probably another half to 3/4 inch (I'll know in the morning). The whole world turns such a vibrant green right after a rain.
I had planted potatoes, green beans, squash, water melons, cantaloupe, and cucumbers this week and was waiting for today. It settled the dust and washed the Live Oak pollen off of everything.
Something falls out of a Live Oak EVERY day of the year. Leaves, sticks, pollen, sticks, bugs, sticks, worms, sticks, acorns, sticks, .... and when there's nothing left to fall out of it, it falls down on something valuable or important at the worst possible time.... I have about 50 or 60 of them....
But, NOTHING, not even a stately stick dropping Live Oak can diminish the Joy of a good Spring rain. Perfect timing too. It washed all the dust off of the new leaves and knocked most of the Pollen out. One day of cleanup tomorrow and then I'll be set for Tuesday.
Tuesday I'll plant the 16 more tomato and pepper plants I bought today because I was so happy it rained last night! Then the bonus rain today! I'm pumped!

armjr, with all the rain you have been gifted, I just wanted to give your post a bump…a reminder of how things change, according to the wishes of Mother Nature. Stay dry and watch those skeeters.

binnylou, Y'all are welcome to a good bit of it. The county has been spraying the stuff that keeps mosquitos from breeding and in the ditches. I've been going for more of a DRT approach. It seems to be working. Looks like we've got some more coming next week. Alan

binnylou, Oh, we know about a change in the weather. Old saying here in Texas, "If you don't like the weather, wait ten minutes". Alan

Looks like we might be getting some rain this weekend. First rain since last March or so. I don't really remember. We did get a couple tens of an inch a few weeks ago, but that's too little to matter too much. They are predicting a bit over an inch here, but I'll believe that when I see it in the rain gauge. Hope they are right. It's a bit early in the year - in school, the best date to bet on in the pool (for the first 'biologically significant' rain - 1 inch) was Thanksgiving. This is supposed to be a La Nina season, so getting lots this year is not anticipated. Keeping my fingers crossed for more than last year (less than 10 inches) Instead of drying persimmons today, I decided they could wait till next week. And it would be better to prepare the rain barrels for collection this weekend. I usually wait for at least an half inch so the roof gets 'cleaned', but the plants wont care if the collected water has dust or bird poop, or ash in it. Not much traffic nearby so there shouldn't be chemicals. And the roof is old. The water just doesnt look as pretty. It's never used in the house, or on leafy veggies. Only seedlings, flowers or things that are cooked.

gianna, you're in CA, right? In general, your area is set to get a bunch ("atmospheric river") of rain. Hopefully it will last through the rest of the season. California, yes, but we are in southern California. Most of the rain is predicted for north of Point Conception, which often is the natural dividing line for rain storms. Even if most of the rains do fall more to the north, barring natural disasters, all precipitation is good for snow pack and filling reservoirs. And my county does buy water from the north, when they have it. An old weatherman in Los Angeles once said: Southern California - The Acts of God Theme Park.

Monday morning, 8-ish am. Weve had almost 4/10 of an inch thus far at the south end of the 'atmospheric river'. The heaviest part is yet to come today. Predicted just over one inch - not really that much, but we are really hungry for it!!!. Thus far the various 'modifications' to the 4 down spouts are working well. I've been able to collect about 150 gallons of water thus far. Maximum possible today is about 600 - 700 gallons. What is surprising is that for the first significant rain of the season, and after a long dry period, the water is looking very clear. It's really coming down now. Lovely sound! edit: About an hour later we've added another 0.6 inch of rain. All available containers are full, except for the spa which, after diverting about 100 gallons from still can take another 150 or so. The water from two down spouts is now being directed into garden areas. I've done all I can do for this rain. Note to self: use more effective rain gear.
