the days are getting longer! Anyone else getting itchy fingers to get out in the gardens? ( Latitude33 need not reply ) I'm starting to wake up again. I've had a good rest (am always ready to take the break by the time November rolls around). Really want to get out there and clean up some perennial beds I didn't get to in the Fall, but there's more fresh snow today. Can't wait for the next 50-ish day.

Give me couple of months...currently 17*. Yes, the longer daylight is noticeable. Since most days I am not an early riser, I’m more tuned in to it as 5 p.m. approaches. Today was still light and bright at 4:50 p.m. Though today was cold , there was warmth in that sunshine. That sunshine should help with my mood too.

Days are getting longer but the 10” of snow on the ground is a reminder that winter is still with us. So for now I’ll just daydream.

I see that my Norfolk Pine (parked in front of the fireplace) is now bathed in full sunshine. It hasn’t had this much sunlight for a while. It was moved to accommodate the Christmas tree, and needs to go back to its previous window location.
It only take a couple of dreary days with no sunshine to notice the light changes. We have an octagonal window in the east wall of our kitchen. On a bright sunny day, the prisms in the window create little rainbows all about the kitchen, living room and foyer. As the light changes, the rainbows appear in different areas of the rooms.
Yup, it’s happening. You just have to watch and be aware.

Yes - in fact I mentioned to Mr. Breezy just last night that it was still relatively light out at 5 p.m., where last month at this time it was nearly completely dark. Shouldn't be surprising since the days have been getting longer a minute per day since 12/22.

I can feel the daylight hours getting longer, from my head to my toes. And sunshine, even on a cold Winter's Day, is really good medicine.

Anyone else getting itchy fingers to get out in the gardens? ( Latitude33 need not reply ) Don't worry about me. No,no,no, I have learned my lesson. Talking out of turn, whilst all y'all have that winterfrostsnow thingie going on. No siree, won't hear a peep out of me. Excuse me for a moment, be back soon, I have some bok choy, broccoli, cilantro and lettuce to harvest before it all bolts.

This is January. Here I sit in a high mountain valley at 5000 ft elevation. It is snowing. Nothing green growing, so I sit here and play on the computer.

The Asian beetles that have been in hiding...I suspect they spend the winter in the recessed light fixtures...think that spring is on the way. A sunny day will invite a few of them to the south window, which mean that I need to watch for "floaters and swimmer" as I sip my coffee. I certainly don't want to swallow one of those guys. I think I may have done that once and it was not a fun experience.

Sunset was at 5:30 this evening- that's about 40 minutes more of daylight since Solstice. We're gaining at least a minute every day.
Mornings are slower to extend daylight- we're gaining a minute every 2-3 days.
Sure feels good.
