Welcome Wargarden. Interesting reading. Although some advice is outdated, there is a lot that went out of fashion for a time and is now coming back. Did you get the leaflets from a relative who used them? I have a few things from my Mom from the fifties that are interesting. I always liked the idea of allotments. I guess in the US these are reflected in our community gardens. They seem to be a more entrenched part of UK culture and are used more and for the long term. I have two daughters in England and they are always sending pictures of their friend's gardens and chooks (chickens).

I like the measurement system they use which I think is still in use. A full sized allotment is 10 rods, a rod is the length of the stick you would use to goad your oxen from behind a plough in medieval England

I have my leeks still in ground and kale and a few sprouting broccoli plants preparing for spring but otherwise pretty poor compared to their recommendations. Will try for more kale and savoys next year and of course parsnips and swedes.

I like the advice to make sure your bonfire is out before blackout

Not sure how much these have been modernised, its says they've been annotated with up to date techniques.

I have a couple of his other books "Veg growing month by month" and "jams and chutneys". Both of those are very good, no pictures just a few drawings but packed full of good info that you feel he actually has done himself. From UK I know but shipping isn't as bad as you might expect, they aren't big books.

He also has a ton of good info on his website. The book veg growing month by month is basically a distillation of those articles
