Acupuncture would relax the muscles which might be enough to resolve an ongoing issue. But hubby suggests an osteopath- one that's trained in the old school manner-they get a lot of training in mouth/jaw realignments; or someone trained through the Upledger. Institute They have an emphasiss in cranial sacral work though it was founded by osteopath John E Upledger.

tom 🕊, Hopefully it’s something that will likely only happen again in a dentist’s office.

Thanks. I think I will be as long as I stay out of dentists offices. Only thing is, those dentists are necessary people. I go in to have a crown put on on the 23rd. That's going to be an adventure. In the meantime I will be massaging my jaw, hoping to keep the muscles from cramping.

tom 🕊 , If you have already had the prep for the crown, placing the new crown will be quick and hopefully you won't need to be in "lockjaw" position for long. That prep and placing of the temporary takes the most time.

You need to see an oral surgeon specifically trained to handle dislocations. It does not take brute force, it takes a knowledge of how to do the manover without causing even more damage. It is scary when it happens and uncomfortable. Because it happened once doesn’t mean it’s going to happen again. But you do have a greater chance. You need to be able to close your mouth and take rest breaks. Refuse to sit that long for crown prep without closing your mouth. Place your fist under your chin to rest on it. You may need a muscle relaxant. You may get headaches and TMJ. If you have further problems go see a specialist. They can teach you exercises and tips to prevent it from happening.

Place your fist under your chin to rest on it. That is especially good advice. With a fist under my chin, I'll be able to judge how open my mouth is.

Good luck. Hope you don't have a relapse. Maybe try bananas. Potassium helps with cramping I think. I am not a dr but I have played dr a few times. Never had any complaints nor did I ever lose a patient. ;)

You do the best you can with what you have to work with! As you go through life, you are going along fine one moment, knocked down, kicked and trampled the next. You just have to keep on a reaching out and trying to pull yourself up and keep on a going!
