BR- do you have to do that each time you post a pic or is it that once you customize, they will always post at that size?
It's a setting and you only do it once and it stays that size. That's why I like it. No fuss.
Naturegal - I think that you may have Southern Armyworms. Check out this site
entnemdept.ufl.edu/creatures/veg/leaf/southern_armyworm.htm
If it were me I would use bt or Spinosad. Get some quick or you may come home from vacation to tomato plant skeletons.

BR- Thanks for the photo sizing info and I've changed the setting so the next pic should be easier on the eyes instead of a giant worm jumping off the page.
I opened the Southern Armyworm link and photo #5 of the young larvae looks exactly what I have. I'll take a worm to my extension agent on Monday and while I'm out and about pick up something to curb the problem.
BT vs Spinosad: I'll be glad to take advice on which seems to work best for y'all.

I use them for different things. I use bt on anything that gets caterpillars and I use Spinosad on the Colorado Potato beetle larvae if hand picking does not get them under control. Usually I only have to spray it one time.
I read that the Army worm may be difficult to control with biologics (bt) so you may want to try the Spinosad but only spray in the late evening because it will kill bees too.
I would still try the bt because it works so well on caterpillars and once they eat it, they stop eating the leaves. Ask the extension agent what they think although they will probably tell you to use Seven or some other toxic thing.

My local extension agent is a cancer survivor and promotes organic practices at any chance. I should have thought of her to identify the worms and offer a solution but I just automatically came to this forum instead. I need to start using her knowledge along with all the help on this site.

Well, that's good to hear. Let us know what she says.

Yes! Perhaps we need a new post started with pictures of pests for identification? Perhaps you can start it up with your picture and ID from the extension bureau?

That's a really good idea Claude. I have a hard time identifying some of my bugs just by looking at pictures in a book or internet. An insect thread sounds great and I guess we might want to add good bugs also. I see quite a number of insects I don't know what are and I don't kill them because I'm afraid they're the good ones.

I've been patrolling for worms morning and evening. I didn't find any yesterday evening or this morning. I checked again at noon for one to take to my extension agent but no worm to be found. So glad about that but decided to email agent tonight along with a picture so hopefully she will get back with me tomorrow.
