I am the one in the house who keeps the kitty scratching post well seasoned with catnip. While I was "away", the scratching post apparently lost it's aroma and desire. I reminded hubby that it needed to be seasoned, and within minutes, Kitty had discovered it. I've never seen anything like it. It was like 'Kitty Pole Dancing". She had front and back legs wrapped around it...lovin' it like crazy. I'm sure she may have thrown in a few "bumps and grinds'. Next time, I'll have the camera ready...perhaps I can capture her moves.

Nice video NC. I started leasing a new horse on April 1. She's a Morgan and a little more spirited than my previous Quarterhorse but I'm having fun with her and I'm wearing my helmet!

Binny, it's good to see you back again! Hope you're feeling so much better and even more so with every passing day.
NC, I assume those are your cats? They're really lovely; the first one looks as if there's just a touch of cream on her coat, as if she might have some calico lineage. The horse to the right in the first scene of the horses - what kind of horse is she (I think it's a she!) - She has a different body structure than some of the larger horses I've seen so I was wondering. But she looks like a really sweet horse, and she seems to ride well. Is that riding area right on your property?
Rexx, I hope you're enjoying the challenge of your new Morgan! How many different horses have you leased now? It must be exciting to get to "know" different breeds of horses. I assume they each have their own personalities as well as the different breed characteristics?
Red, I'm looking forward to seeing your cat video as well. Maybe this forum will create its own CATS production!

Rexx, I hope you're enjoying the challenge of your new Morgan! Absolutely. She is the third horse I have leased in 3 years. The first one was an American Quarter horse but she had some medical problems and she was retired to be a pasture horse. The second one was also an American Quarter horse. Each one has their own personality and the feel of riding them is different. My goal is to build my skills by riding different horses. This Morgan is very quick and responsive so I am getting to know her style but she is also very affectionate which neither of the others were. I really don't want to own a horse but I love riding so leasing is the perfect option for me. She is "my" horse as long as I am leasing her and I can ride whenever and wherever I want. Many times I will take trail rides with other people who own their own horses. Even though I am leasing a horse, I continue to take a weekly class and I will ride some of the other horses from the stable in class after I am proficient at riding this one. There is a Palamino that I want to ride next and I have also ridden some of the small Icelandic horses in a Drill Team precision thing. I was filling in for someone who was absent and it was great fun.

How exciting! I had no idea that some breeds could be more affectionate than others. Are the Quarter Horses used for barrel racing - I seem to have some recollection of that, but could be wrong, as I also recall reading about horses bred specifically for barrel racing. I assume there would be some specific physical characteristics because of the sharp turns required for turning closely around the barrels.
I think riding in a Drill Team must be really challenging and exciting - soooo much precision. I think of the Lippizaner Stallions, the Blue Angels, the Canadian Snowbirds, the Army's Golden Knights and the Seals skydive team.... and of course the Marine Corps drill teams when I hear the "precision" terms. I've seen all, the Angels and Snowbirds, Golden Knights and Seals at air shows and the Marines and Lippizaner Stallions on tv. It's always thrilling to watch such precision displays, whether they're with animals, humans or aircraft - so much training and coordination to accomplish!

springrain - my kitties are Cricket and Emma, rescued from a pregnant momma who had been hit by a car. I am never sure if that coloring is tortoise or calico, but I guess it doesn not really matter. They have grown up to be amazing cats and wonderful hunters to keep our barn rodent free.
Joe and Della (the brown horse) are Norwegian Fjords, a small draft horse. Very friendly, affectionate - they call them the "dogs" of the horse world (well, except for Joe who is more like an Arab than a Fjord). This is our property - mostly the front pasture. I am fortunate to have 7 acres, none of it level, but all of it beautiful.
brownrexx - my first lease was an Arab - loved him! my second lease was a Percheron / quarter horse cross. And then I started buying my own - so, you should be due soon!

Spring, my second Quarter horse was trained to do barrel racing and other rodeo type stuff (called gaming). He is ridden in competitions by a young girl who also leases him and he does quite well.
I had to be very careful when I asked him to make a turn because he could turn on a dime and nearly throw me off sideways!
My Morgan was also doing some gaming but her owner (my trainer) has retired her from gaming because it is too hard on her legs. She is also trained to do some beautiful jumping but I won't be doing any of that with her!
NC, when I first started riding I briefly thought about buying a horse but then I found out that they can live for 20 - 30 years and I pictured myself bending down and picking dirt from a horses feet when I was 80 so I nixed that idea! I could never sell a pet. You know that I can't even get rid of a chicken without crying.
