Mine are all up and about 8 inches tall. I've always only grown hard necks but put in some soft necks (Italian Lorz) this year. Both my hard and soft necks are growing comparably and are all about the same height right now.

No photo (sorry), but you oughta see my garlic. 4th generation saved homegrown white softneck and red-streaked hardneck, all at 30 inches tall. As long as it keeps performing well I'll keep planting it every October 15. Suits us fine, the hardneck is s-spicy, and the softneck is somewhat milder. Both store well. Didn't hit my target of 75 bulbs, but 60 should do. Eh...but probably not.

In just a little over 24 hours, there are scapes all over out there! Actually, the ones in the back rows - the Montana Giant - are almost covered with them, so I probably didn't look closely at those yesterday, but the German and Estonian varieties are starting up, also. The Metechi doesn't seem to have a single scape yet, looking closely at them. Scapes finally showing up on most of the garlic. 5-25 by pepperhead212, on Flickr
