I planted at least 8 cauliflower, 3 purple napa, 2 misome, and 2 senposai seedlings today, all in containers - things I hadn't tried in SIPs before. The 3 types of radishes I planted in a raised bed on Wednesday are already up - most of the doubled seeds sprouted, so I thinned those. I re-applied sluggo to these areas - it's been a long time, but the slugs are coming back, like in the spring - I pulled one of the drip emitters out of one of the "chimneys" in an SIP, and 3 slugs were attached!

pepperhead - one of my broccolis was getting slaughtered and I was wondering what it was. Sure enough - caught the slug in the act. got him on a twig and flung him as far as I could. Not sure if the broccoli will recover. Will see how it goes. We've had ideal slug weather the past week....

I've never been one to do Fall crops. I have several right now. Can't say I am impressed. Beets are still tiny. Lettuce is still tiny. Peas are only 6" tall. Cabbage is slow. The only thing doing well is second planting of bush beans, though I wouldn't consider those Fall crop since they weren't planted that late. Late planted kohlrabi is doing well. I kept the lettuce shaded on hot days and regularly watered. I'm thinking late planted is the way to go, but just when would things be considered Fall crop? Planted China Rose radishes about a month ago, they are getting very tall and look to be forming roots. Maybe my impressions will change. Been thinking on your OP here. Yes - things are going very slow out there. I guess it is just different than the energy of summer or spring looking into summer with each day longer than the last. Made the last week of rain and cloud a little harder to bear considering the lost opportunities on sunshine hours! Well after all was planted, I did find some french breakfast radish seeds and threw some down with some compatible croppings. Wow - what a quick and joyful burst of seedlings. Putting the others to shame.

I planted a few more fast fall crops (radishes, and a couple Asian greens) in some spots there were other things I pulled out - cucumbers, and some of those cauliflower seedlings that just didn't make it. As usual, the cauliflower just isn't growing like the other greens I started in late August. Here is a photo of the red napa, just over 3 weeks old.
