Hundreds of them, especially out in the area of the gravel road. That would put them between the tall field corn and our windbreak with lots of Queen Anne’s Lace blooming in the ditch.
I think they are Painted Lady butterflies...maybe.

Lots of Black, Pipevine, and Tiger swallowtails, and some of the sassafras and tulip poplars have their caterpillars on them. None on the dill or parsley yet. Many Sulphurs, and several Monarchs coming through, too.

binnylou, have you specifically planted butterfly plants? I've never seen more than a handful on any day; it must be thrilling to see so many as are visiting your area now.

SpringRain🕊️, I think the Painted Ladies, if that is what they are, might be attracted to the QAL, and the gravel road surface is warmer than the surrounding area. My flower garden is right next to the windbreak. There’s lots of tall garden phlox in bloom right now. The black swallowtails seem to really like the phlox. I was watching yesterday...the butterflies almost do a dance over the big mops of bloom.

binnylou and datgirl, your yards must be lovely, especially with all the butterflies on the phlox. For the last few years I've had something growing wild that looked like phlox, but none this year, at least so far. Planting some definitely now gets added to the "to do" list.

Skippers, Sulfurs, Blues, and Swallowtails are everywhere. Waiting on the welcome Fritillary invasion. Saw today, of all things in the afternoon, a huge Cecropia moth flutter out of the trees and light close to me. Big, big moths, they are. I've seen their cigar-sized caterpillars around, and I'm glad they're thriving here.

Came upon this swallowtail a couple days ago. I noticed part of his wing is missing. But he was acting quite normal, feeding and fluttering around. Nature is amazing! Gives us a lesson in overcoming handicaps. It was interested in the parsley.

My first two Monarchs emerged this week. One on Wednesday and one today.

No butterflies this year. Even though the roadside ditches are white with QAL, and my tall garden phlox is loaded with bloom (all 7 of them), I’ve seen only one Swallowtail.
There’s been daily aerial crop dusting for several weeks now. 😟

Started noticing a few Monarchs in the past two weeks but the milkweed is pretty well past it's prime. Otherwise it's been Painted Ladies, and Swallowtails.

The monarchs are passing through now. There is wild milkweed in the nature preserve that hosts their caterpillars. Saw this one out front on the butterfly bush:

Yesterday was first butterfly 🦋 of the season. A Black Swallowtail, I think. Size was smaller than what I would expect.

Not butterflies, but the big Luna moths are on their yearly visit again on both sides of my front door, as well as the porch and garage. I've been trying to come up with a term for their distinctive color..."Luna Green"? Big, feather-headed, beautiful swallowtailed creatures.

Wheelgarden, we see the big Luna moths around our area, but very rarely. We might see just a few the entire summer. They are beautiful.
