Am I alone or what? I can't move when it's this hot.

Chocolate éclair pie. Sister had her ten-year-old grandson today. He's into cooking sweets, and she brought over a serving of chocolate éclair pie. Well, after the pie, I put metal extensions in the bean columns, covered a drum that I thought mosquitoes were getting into, dug up a smilax clump, and cleaned garlic. What with the garlic and sweat, the mosquitoes laid off me.

I get more selective when determining what needs to be done. It’s more important to water thirsty plants than pull weeds.
and, I thought of this while out there weed whacking. If time is short or the temperatures are challenging, I place more importance on whacking a weed that is close to setting seeds than I do on getting a specific area totally done. I can go back later to get the young immature weeds. Just want to stop the reseeding cycle.

I make double-darn sure I carry a quart jug of icy water to drink and a pint of lemongrass skeeter spray out there. And shady breaks, 'neath the shade trees.

I'm the same way...I get done what I need to do by 10 or so and then get out of the sun. Then about 6 or 7 in the evening, I get back outside to finish up anything that is left to do.

On those really hot, or extremely high heat index days, I try to only work in the shade, in front of the house, early in the day, behind the house, late in the day. And maybe sample some chiles, while out there working - after all, capsaicin cools the body!

Start working around 5 or 6 in the evening until 8:30. Maybe will try early morning once school's out.

I'm generally in the garden by 5:30 in the morning and stay until my daughter wakes up, which is usually around 8:00. Since hubby is home because of the virus, we alternate being outside during the afternoon. When he comes in for a break, I usually go out. Our backyard doesn't get shady until 4 or 5, so that's when I take my daughter out to play until dark or she's ready to come in.

"I go out at the butt crack of dawn and getter' done!"
Well I am more of a latecomer, I will go out just before sundown and work till dark. No working out in the sunshine mid day. NO NO NO.

While I've never worked well in the heat, I have to be (according to my cardiologist) a lot more careful now than I ever was pre-surgery. Not supposed to do much of anything, if anything, in temps or heat indices over 90. So I pretty much just do a task at a time, interspersed with a/c & water breaks in the house. (I keep a bottle of water in the freezer.) I'll also alternate a bit of garden work with a bit of housework - this way nothing gets totally neglected.

I have to work in the garden when I have the time, regardless of weather. Been out there in 95+ degrees, thunderstorms, snow, rain and whatever. Spent 8 hours out in 92 degree weather the other day, did not like the heat one bit but had to get it done. The granddaughters got me one of those "As seen on TV" arctic hats for father's day and I wore it that the whole day, it does work. I also wear long sleeves and gloves for sun protection but will not give up wearing shorts.

I just hose myself down and keep on working. Doubt that would work for those of you in a 90% humidity area, but here in a 7% humidity area it works great.

We hit 117 heat index Friday. It was awful. I usually start around 6am. Drink half a gallon of water every two hours. Skip coffee if it’s going to be above 105. If it’s going to be above 110, Ill try to be out of the sun by noon, then take a break in AC and eat fruit and drink water for a couple hours. then I go back out around 2 and and if its still really hot, do work in the shade like fill pots, sowing seeds, and other nursery work the rest of the day, usually drink kombucha toward the end of workday. Hydration is key
