Purple Globe Allium is about done blooming. Chives and blue flax are blooming, as well as Baptisia. I cut a piece of that Baptisia root out and transplanted it elsewhere. Amazingly it's growing. I've read they are hard to transplant. Lilacs are done. Nine Bark is blooming profusely. All Hibiscus are sending up shoots, really late this year. Ornamental grasses are VERY slow this year, especially the Zebra grass. I was about to give up on it then saw shoots peeking up the other day.

I have viola, larkspur and California poppies blooming now. Gaillardia is about to bloom as well as more poppies, Canterbury bells and sea holly. I planted some things in the fall/early winter to see if I could get some early blooms and a few things like snapdragons and Ammi self seeded. Always nice to see the flowers starting to bloom!

Lupine is blooming, planted it from seed a couple years ago. It only lasts 3-4 years here, then I have to start over.

The clematis on the south wall of the barn is beginning to bloom. It is loaded with lots of buds. If all of those buds open, it’s gonna be a beautiful sight.

Marigolds will be blooming soon. Thinned them out last week, they sure germinated well! Lupine is blooming, oriental lilies are about to bloom. Weigelia blooming. It's starting to look a lot like Summer out there.

The sunflower also rises... "Short Stuff" from Baker Creek. Only about three feet tall.

The Lavender is fully loaded with bloom, making the bumble bees happy. Clematis is putting on its best show in several years. And in a few days, daylily Mary Todd will join the show. I have other daylilies, but Mary Todd is the star of the flower garden.

"Ditch Lilies" are blooming everywhere around here, including in an unwanted area of our front deck bed. But they've been here since Day 1 in 1996 & are almost impossible to eradicate, so we've let them be these last couple of years.

breezygardener I like the "ditch lilies", but not in unwanted spot. We had a mass of them for years where they were unwelcome...so we dug and we burned and we burned and we dug...and they still pop up. BTW, one year we lightly fried up their seed pods like okra, and they were quite good.

BTW, one year we lightly fried up their seed pods like okra, and they were quite good. Actually, "ditch lilies" are definitely edible. In fact, the unopened flower buds are the ones that are dried & used in many Chinese dishes, frequently called "golden needles". I've never cooked with the seed pods though. Not all daylily varieties - especially the new hybrid varieties - are edible, so folks interested in cooking with them have to be very careful.

They're everywhere here too. I've been thinning out a clump from the garden for a couple of years now. I'm making some headway with it. I throw the clumps into the woods and those root and are blooming. The deer get some of them.

I finally witnessed 2 deer who jumped the fence into my private flower gardens and have eaten a lot of blooms. My usual 4 week display of Day lilies - gone! Sunflower buds-poof! Bachelor buttons- a few are standing. Larkspur are gone.
Yarrow, delphinium, California poppies, hardy geranium (perennial) and lavender are in full bloom, coral bells too. Roses are doing well.
