I bought mine (on sale) from Cabela's about two years ago and it works great. I like it for bagging freeze-dried and dehydrated food because I know I have a good seal and little or no air in the bag.

martywny, I went a little crazy dehydrating mushrooms this year and will be vacuum sealing some of the earlier ones and tossing them in the freezer.

I'm having so much fun with this new toy. I keep thinking of things to use it for. Dividing large bags of almonds from Costco, And today, after deboning a roast chicken, putting some of the meat in the freezer for soup to go with all the veggies in there too. When it gets cooler. It will be perfect for the dried persimmons later.

Speaking of dried things, if you buy a lot of spices, like I do, it's cheaper, plus the things are usually much fresher due to the turnover, when I get those large bags of things at the Indian markets. I put them in jars, depending on how fast I use the stuff, and the rest goes in FS bags, then those go into 2 gal ziplocs - one for herbs, one misc, then others for Mexican, one for Thai and similar, and two for Indian spices, and those go into an 18 gal black tub. All these are Inventoried, so I can see if I'm getting low on anything, before running out! I don't buy many powdered things, but things I do, like paprika, keep fresh tasting much longer this way. But to put them in there, I keep the original bag, then just fold the top down - this way, the powder doesn't try to come out the top. I also do this with sharp type spices, like black cardamom. The star anise is one I keep a small jar of, and the rest I put in mason jars, and suck the air out. An Indian friend told me she had never seen anyone when she was visiting relatives in India, that had as many spices as I have!
