Sorry and somewhat embarrassed to report that the only things growing on my windowsills are dust bunnies. The windows are just too cold for anything living. I do plan to banish the dust bunnies and add some holiday decorations though. I enjoy that very much, bringing out all the holiday picks and wreaths and adorning the house with them, stopping periodically for some warm cider as encouragement.

2 African violets on the counter under the South facing window. I love to take leaves from them and root new ones. The avocado tree is gone, it was dropping leaves like crazy. It was a year old and was fun. On to new things. Attic east window has 2 date palms that are seriously slow growing. 2 north bedroom windows have majestic palms. Living room south window has diffenbachia, one that was on clearance at Homey Depot for $3 last Spring and growing nicely.

My east-facing kitchen windowsill & part of a counter are a jungle that my husband feels Tarzan could get lost in, many of which need repotting into larger quarters, which may mean having to move some of them to the larger, wider, vacant south-facing windowsills fairly soon. Currently a selection of succulents, African violets, amaryllis, Thanksgiving/Xmas cactus, & various orchids are snugly sharing space in the kitchen.
Residents in the living area are a nearly 6'-tall Euphorbia Trigona & a 5-plus-foot standard tropical "Red Dragon" hibiscus that's been dragged in off the deck for yet another winter's indoor stay. I've managed to winter it over for two years now & am keeping fingers crossed that I can pull off a third. I bought it at Lowe's from their "TLC" corner for a mere $12 (it had a touch of frostbite) & new ones were being sold this past summer for $79!!! Also currently residing in our living area are two pots of pansies & a rosemary that I move in & out depending on the weather.
The upstairs bathroom contains four ferns, a small Meyer lemon, a 6' tall Weeping Fig that I - believe it or not - bought as a 2-footer back in 1984 - a small Dracaena Marginata Tricolor, & a really wild Heart-leaf philodendron that has climbed up a wall & is now marching across the ceiling.

breezygardener , I'm assuming you move the Meyer lemon outdoors during summer and bring it in over winter? I didn't think fruits like a lemon could survive indoors in cold climates, but I'd love to try. Is this a full size lemon plant? Did you acclimate it in kind of a reverse hardening off before it moved inside completely? Do you use any artificial light directed on it specifically?

Too soon to tell. I just acquired it this past Spring via a free offer from "Michigan Bulb". It's only a 10" tall seedling that spent the summer outdoors & is now inside for the winter. Unfortunately while outside it did become prey to Scale, which I've been battling, so we'll see how that goes. No artificial light - just a southeast-facing window which seems to suit it well.

breezygardener, Nice to see you here! Is your hibiscus a tropical or hardy one? Wow, $79 seems a bit high.

breezygardener, desertwoman, I haven't been to Lowe's much at all this year and am not familiar with the TLC Corner. It's definitely something to check out. I usually just get what I want w/o checking any markdowns. And I spend less time there since they D'C'ed their magazine and book section; there were a lot of good resources there. Thanks for sharing this.

I didn't do any hardening off or reverse hardening off for the lemon seedling, & it didn't seem to care.
As for the "Red Dragon" hibiscus, it's a tropical, so can't productively be outside when temps drop below 40. I have it in a huge glazed ceramic pot on a wheeled dolly so that until we have truly cold daytime temps I can still roll it outside during the day & bring it back in for the evening. I couldn't believe that Lowe's was selling them for $79!! Geesh. It does have absolutely gorgeous fluffy fist-sized scarlet double blooms, & even when it comes indoors & drops its leaves, it continues to bloom sporadically all winter. It's really a very nice plant (not $79 nice though - lol!), & I do hope it manages for yet another year. I couldn't believe the luck in getting it for only $12, & only because some of the branch tips were frostbitten thanks to Lowe's jumping the gun & getting the plants way too early; way before our last frost date.
Now I can never go to Lowe's without checking their "TLC" corners - they have one in the outdoor nursery area & one inside where they have their houseplants. I've gotten some really lovely ferns that only needed a little consistent watering & better light, several orchids whose only fault was that they were out of bloom, & various outdoor annuals & perennials that just needed a little "TLC". All for anywhere from $1-$3 each.

Probably nothing on the south side. Possibly moss on the north side. Maybe I should check...

Most of the flowers out front are from the $1-5 corner at Lowes. I just look for perennials that are there either because they got new shipments or the plants have a brown leaf or two. Put them in the front bed and forget them until the next year, when I wonder," Where did this gorgeous flower come from?"

Windowsill rose #1 is doing very well. #2 was just cuttings sticking in the soil. I was all set to pitch it but yesterday I found a tiny bit of green leaf. I was sure it was totally dead.
Spring is on its way...the slumber is nearing the end and the world is waking up.

Nothing!
